Charlie Wurz, Rafael Camara and Noah Strømsted will compete for Trident in the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship.
Wurz’s Move To Trident
Wurz is the only driver in Trident’s 2025 lineup who isn’t in his rookie Formula 3 season.
Racing with Jenzer Motorsport in 2024, the Austrian-British driver finished 22nd in the drivers’ standings, with his only points scoring finish being in Melbourne’s Feature Race.
“I think Melbourne was a good track for me. I really like it, I enjoyed it even on the sim […] It’s a lot of fun so I’m very happy to go back,” said Wurz, who finished the race in fifth position.
“Hopefully I can do better than I did. Being with Trident, we have a great car, I think. Already, in the first three days of testing, we could feel it’s very nice and it’s very fun to drive already.”
With Melbourne being the first race on the calendar this season, Wurz will be hoping to replicate or even better his performance at a track where he is already confident.
“I think last season we were also a bit unlucky in some other places. In the end, to have Melbourne as the first round as a second-year driver […] having the experience of the track is definitely beneficial.”
From FRECA to F3
Camara and Strømsted complete Trident’s 2025 lineup, with both drivers entering their rookie season in the series.
Currently the reigning Formula Regional European champion, Camara won the title in Barcelona last year with one round remaining.
“I think it is the biggest step I’ve had until now,” said Camara, speaking about adapting to this year’s Formula 3 car after competing in FRECA.
“I think in the end I was able to adapt quite quickly. In terms of speed, it’s mainly in the corners, you feel that you can carry much more speed due to the downforce. I think it’s funnier to drive as you have more speed, more adrenaline, so it’s nice. In the end, it felt like a racing car, so it feels like home, and everything went pretty smoothly.”
Strømsted also competed in the 2024 Formula Regional European Championship with RPM, finishing seventh in the standings with 121 points and four podiums.
“The balance, everything they did over the winter and the preparation we did with the sim really helped a lot,” said Strømsted, talking about his transition.
The Danish driver made his Formula 3 debut during the Monza season finale, finishing 17th and 23rd in the Sprint and Feature races respectively.
“I think for this season, it’ll be to fight for wins and in the end, the Championship. Together with Trident, it’s a very capable team. They’ve won the Championship the last three years and the pre-season rest we has in Barcelona was good, the car felt very good.”
The New Generation Of F3
A new generation Formula 3 car has been unveiled for the 2025 season and has been designed to boost overtaking capabilities.
Furthermore, the new car, which is planned to run on Aramco’s advanced fuel, has also been designed to improve the ergonomics and driver installation to accommodate a wide range of racers.
“Obviously, it’s new for everyone but I think in the end, the work that you need to do is always more or less the same,” said Camara.
Therefore, the rookies may find themselves at a slight advantage as everyone gets to grips with the new generation car.
“I think it’s a little help that the car changed but […] it doesn’t feel so different to the old one,” said Strømsted.
“The biggest difference that I feel with the new car is the tyres and I think that’s the biggest advantage for the rookies […] as we don’t really know how much they degrade over one lap in qualifying or over races.”
All Eyes On Camara
All eyes will be on Camara, with the Brazilian driver being the current Formula Regional European champion.
Partnering Kimi Antonelli in the 2022 Italian Formula 4 Championship, Camara will be hoping to reach the heights of Formula 1 like his former teammate.
“He’s a good driver; he deserves to be in F1. It’s difficult to know what he’s going to do. I think he has the potential to do well. I don’t really like to compare. I’ll just keep focusing on doing my best.”
As well as this, Camara will also be chasing his fellow Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, the 2024 FIA Formula 2 champion and 2025 Stake F1 driver.
“I’ve known Gabriel since we were seven, eight. We shared quite a lot of moments in karting. Single seaters were slightly different because […] he was always in a category ahead,” Camara reminisced.
“We don’t speak much about racing. It’s more just like friends but we never get in touch much about our racing life, but it would be nice to, one day, be driving with him.”
The 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship begins at the Australian Grand Prix on 14-16 March, 2025.
