Porsche will no longer apply to enter the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship.

After months of evaluation and speculation, Porsche have made a decision on whether or not they will apply to enter in 2026. It seems that after a formal evaluation process, the decision is that they will not.

Despite still being interested in the sport, the fact that they had been turned down by Red Bull and McLaren has basically made the decision for them. The main sticking point for the teams mentioned was that Porsche wanted to buy large or even controlling shares in the teams.

Porsche will now focus their attention on other motorsports; namely a works Formula E team and a Le Mans entry with the 963 Hypercar project.

Their sister Volkswagen Group company Audi will still be entering the championship. They have done so, by buying into Sauber. They will also be developing their own engine and have already employed key figureheads in the form of Andreas Seidl from McLaren, as CEO to helm their F1 project.

Audi are slowly increasing their ownership in the Sauber team, working up from the 25% that they currently own to 75% once the transaction will be completed. Then current majority share holder Finn Rausing will retain a 25% minority share in the team.

Are you disappointed not to be seeing the famous sportcar marque Porsche, in line to be an F1 Team?
