Max Verstappen is on pole position for the first time in Singapore. However, after a chaotic Sprint and a close qualifying session, there is still plenty to play for under the Marina Bay floodlights.
Verstappen edged out Charles Leclerc by just 0.054 seconds, with Lewis Hamilton completing the top three in qualifying. Antonelli starts fourth, while Norris lines up fifth as McLaren looks to recover after their dramatic Sprint collision.
George Russell however, faces a much bigger challenge. After crashing out of the Sprint while leading, the Mercedes driver qualified sixth. Regardless, he will start from the back of the grid following a penalty for using additional power unit elements. With overtaking difficult around Marina Bay, strategy and Safety Cars could prove crucial to his recovery.
Red Bull also have questions to answer after Isack Hadjar retired from the Sprint and struggled to set a representative lap in qualifying. He has been permitted to start the Grand Prix from the back of the grid.
After a rain-affected Sprint that saw nine retirements, can Sunday’s race deliver more drama? Verstappen will be looking to convert pole into victory, but with Leclerc alongside him and Hamilton ready to capitalise, the fight at the front is far from settled.
With tight barriers and little room for error, the opening laps could prove crucial. Strategy, tyre management and Safety Car interruptions could all shape the outcome.
