Monte Carlo, Monaco, April 25, 2024 – In a landmark reveal, Formula E and the FIA introduced the revolutionary GEN3 Evo race car. This latest iteration of electric race car technology promises to be a game-changer for the sport, boasting an unprecedented 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 1.82 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating FIA single-seater on the planet.

Unmatched Speed and Performance

Revealed at an exclusive event at H.S.H Prince Albert II’s Private Car Collection in Monaco, the GEN3 Evo is set to make its competitive debut in Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. This series features the world’s top manufacturers and drivers battling it out in some of the most iconic urban locations globally.

The GEN3 Evo surpasses its predecessor, the GEN3, in every performance metric. Notably, it accelerates from 0-60 mph 30% faster than current Formula 1 cars and 36% quicker than the GEN3 model. This performance enhancement translates to approximately 2 seconds faster per qualifying lap on the Monaco circuit, affirming the car’s suitability for high-speed, competitive racing on any track.

Technological Innovations and Sustainability

Among the significant upgrades, the GEN3 Evo introduces an all-wheel drive system activated during qualifying duels, race starts, and ATTACK MODE. This feature is a first for a Formula E car, optimizing both acceleration and control, which enhances the race dynamics and intensifies driver rivalries.

Additionally, the car is equipped with the latest Hankook iON race tyres, which are now made from 35% recycled and sustainable materials. These tyres offer between 5-10% more grip than the previous generation, pushing the boundaries of performance while maintaining a commitment to environmental responsibility.

Efficiency and Environmental Commitment

The GEN3 Evo not only sets new standards in speed but also in efficiency and sustainability. It remains the most powerful and efficient electric race car globally, capable of reaching top speeds of up to 200 mph. The vehicle maximizes the use of a 600kw regenerative braking system, which generates nearly 50% of the energy needed during the race itself.

In line with Formula E’s pioneering environmental ethos, the GEN3 Evo continues to be the world’s first net-zero carbon race car in the first net-zero carbon sport. The sustainable practices extend through the car’s lifecycle—from ethical sourcing of battery minerals to recycling of battery cells and integration of natural materials like linen into the car’s chassis.

As part of the technical roadmap of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, all powertrains will be newly homologated for Season 11. This allows teams and manufacturers to incorporate enhancements and optimisations from the GEN3 model into their new entries, ensuring continuous innovation in the sport.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, remarked, “The GEN3 Evo heralds a ground-breaking chapter in the evolution of Formula E, embodying our dedication to innovation and high performance achieved sustainably.”

“This car is set to intensify the thrill of our races and captivate our drivers and fans around the world with its superior capabilities and performance.”

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, added, “The FIA and Formula E have diligently worked on developing the GEN3 Evo, which signifies another substantial leap in electric racing technology.”

“I am grateful to both the FIA and Formula E teams for their dedication, which underscores our mutual commitment to advancing sustainable motorsport while delivering thrilling and competitive racing.”
