Formula E battery concerns mean Attack Mode change for Berlin

The total Attack Mode activation time has been reduced for the two races at the Berlin E-Prix. This is amid fears over the state of the current batteries.

Currently, when the drivers go off line though the designated detection point, they get an additional amount of power. Which is the same 350kW used for qualifying.

They usually get this boost for eight minutes. However, given the extra strain on the battery, WAE and the FIA have taken steps to reduce the time the drivers will have an attack mode.

This has been reduced to six minutes in race one and four minutes for race two.

In a statement, the FIA said: “The duration of Attack Mode for the Berlin E-Prix has been reduced as part of the normal and continuous process of car lifecycle monitoring.

“The Sporting Regulations have been specifically designed to allow this flexibility in format.”

Further changes could be made at the next races in Shanghai and Portland, as the tracks have long straights. Similar circuits like Sao Paulo earlier this year, saw cars de-rating and losing power.
