Nikola Tsolov picked up his third win so far this year in the F3 Feature Race 2025 Austrian GP with Stenshorne & Tramnitz close behind.
Tsolov made his mark at the Red Bull Ring in his second Pole to Win Victory of the season. After a strong performance in Qualifying, Tsolov cruised to victory ahead of Martinius Stenshorne and Tim Tramnitz.
The Weekend So Far…
Friday’s Qualifying left many of the seasons front runners out of place. Championship leader Rafael Camara only managed to qualify seventh, while MP Motorports’ Tramnitz was back in 17th.
The 2025 Austrian Grand Prix has proved to be a turning point for ART Grand Prix’s James Wharton who secured his first reverse grip pole and race win in the Sprint Race. Wharton managed to keep out of trouble after two safety cars and five retirements.
Williams Academy Driver Alessandro Giusti finished closely behind after a sprint to the flag. After a five second post race penalty to Ugochukwu, Tsolov was promoted into the final podium place.
Clean Off the Start
With lights out in the Austrian F3 Feature Race, the drivers raced towards the first turn. Tsolov and Brad Benavides managed to edge themselves away from the field.
Benavides, who earned his highest qualifying of the season in second, slowly started to slip from Tsolov. He soon became the first driver in a 27 car DRS train.
With the cars away cleanly, it was all to play for as they raced around the 4.3km circuit. Trident’s Camara made the most of the fast pace, moving up into fifth.
After sliding into the gravel, AIX Racing’s Benavides began to lose pace to the rest of the group.
A Track for Overtaking
The Red Bull Ring, which boasts three DRS zones, and only ten corners was perfect for overtaking.
By lap seven, Camara had moved up to seventh. Fellow Trident teammate Noah Stromsted had held his position in third.
Prema’s Brando Badoer had to retire from the race after picking up suspension damage. Badoer, who had been running high in the points, became the only retiree of the race.
Campos’ Mari Boya and Hitech’s Stenshorne were two of the big movers of the race. Boya, who started 14th continued to impress, marching up the field into 6th. While Stenshorne, who started 15th, broke free from Ugochukwu and Stromsted moving into third.
In a race clear of safety cars, it was down to pure speed and strategy as the race moved into the final laps.
Camara, who had been maintaining his second position was passed on lap 19 of 26 by Stenshorne. Stenshorne, who is apart of the McLaren Driving Academy, made his way onto the first Feature Race podium of the 2025 F3 season.
Trident’s Charlie Wurz, who suffered heartbreak in the Sprint Race, charged home in seventh. The Austrian managed to make his moves up from tenth and finished in between his teammates.
Tsolov Storms Home
Tsolov displayed another dominant victory in the 2025 Austrian Feature Race. The Red bull junior managed to put over six seconds to the rest of the field. With some late overtakes, and degrading tires, Stenshorne was able to hold off fellow Red Bull Junior Tramnitz. Boya made some late overtakes on Camara and Ugochukwu, finishing the race in fourth.
A flawless race saw him narrow down the F3 Championship to just one point. Camara, who dominated the start of the 2025 F3 season, currently sits on 115 points. Tsolov, who is now in his third season in F3, sits behind on 114 points.
After a successful Round 6 in Austria, Formula 3 will look ahead to Silverstone.
