Hannah Adams Avatar

Richard Verschoor won the F2 Sprint Race at the 2025 Spanish GP. Alexander Dunne went from nineteenth to second, whilst Rafael Villagomez secured third; his first F2 podium finish.

Leonardo Fornaroli lined up in Pole for Invicta Racing, with Joshua Durksen joining him on the front row. Luke Browning was third on Saturday’s reverse grid.

Lights Out

Championship leader Browning had an excellent start, taking the lead into Turn 1 from third.

Last weekend’s Feature Race winner Jak Crawford also jumped ahead of Fornaroli and Durksen into second.

Roman Stanek also wanted to take a chance against Durksen, although the AIX driver managed to hold on to fourth position.

Kush Maini was able to take fifth from the Invicta Racing driver by the end of lap one.

John Bennett retired from the race after seemingly suffering from suspension damage.

A Fight For First

By lap three, Crawford was within DRS range of leader Browning.

Polesitter Fornaroli was also in touching distance of the DAMS Lucas Oil driver, who had now set the fastest lap.

An impressive move saw Crawford take the lead into Turn 4 and 5 on lap four, with the American hoping to have a consecutive run of perfect results.

20 Laps Remaining

By lap six, Crawford had opened a gap of +0.8s to Browning in second, with Fornaroli just +0.4s down on the British driver.

Although, the gap between the two frontrunners seemed to stabilise at around 0.7s as lap ten approached.

The Battle Commences

Lap 11 saw Crawford break the DRS to Browning behind, denying him the opportunity to take the lead.

However, the Hitech driver was able to respond, getting back within a second of the race leader.

In thirteenth, Gabriele Mini was pressuring his teammate Sebastian Montoya ahead.

Trouble For Durksen

Trouble for Durksen on lap 13 saw him rapidly losing positions to Maini, Ritomo Miyata and Roman Stanek.

A technical issue meant that his fight for a podium position was over as he filed into the pits.

Yellow Flag

Richard Verschoor went side-by-side with tomorrow’s polesitter Arvid Lindblad into Turn 1, causing a spin for the Campos Racing driver.

Although Lindblad was able to get going again, he now found himself in nineteenth position.

10 Laps Remaining

At the front, the gap between Crawford and Browning at the front was still relatively stable at 0.7s.

Browning told his engineers that he believed the American driver was “starting to struggle.”

Safety Car

PREMA teammates Mini and Montoya came together at Turn 1 after the Italian driver tried to make the move into twelfth position.

Although Montoya was able to get going once again, Mini lost the engine, resulting in his retirement from the race

As the Safety Car came out, several drivers including Verschoor, Alexander Dunne, Lindblad and Victor Martins took the opportunity to pit for a fresh set of Soft tyres.

Green Flag

With six laps remaining, it was now a Sprint to the finish line.

Crawford was able to hold onto the lead, with Browning not quite close enough into Turn 1 to make the move.

Verschoor was able to make up five positions on his fresh set of tyres, with the MP Motorsport driver now fighting for a position on the podium in fourth.

Dunne was also making up crucial positions after starting in nineteenth.

Remarkably, Verschoor cleared Fornaroli at the end of Lap 22, promoting him to third. He then dived up the inside of Browning to take second.

A Change Of Lead… Again

Verschoor took the lead for Crawford into Turn 1, hoping for his second race win of the season so far.

Dunne was also able to breeze past the American around the outside of Turn 3 to take the second podium position.

It was now a straight fight between Verschoor and the Rodin driver.

Rafael Villagomez was also benefitting from his switch to the Soft tyres, with the Mexican driver aiming for his first podium in the series.

After making his way through the order, he passed Crawford with ease, taking the final podium position.
