Arvid Lindblad secured his first pole position of the season in F2 qualifying for the 2025 Spanish GP ahead of Sebastian Montoya and Kush Maini.
Alex Dunne has a 13-place grid penalty for the sprint race tomorrow and a three-place grid penalty for the feature race after the events of last weekend in Monaco.
As It Happened
The track temperature was a staggering 49 degrees as the cars made their way out on track. After a few prep laps, Max Esterson was the first to start his flying lap. Dunne and Goethe went faster behind.
Prema were noted for a pit lane infringement as half of the field elected to sit in the pits with no times on the board. Pepe Martí was the first driver of the session to have his lap deleted for track limits, though he wouldn’t be the last.
Those who had yet to set a flying lap exited the pits ten minutes into the session. Half of the field had already set their banker laps and were returning to the pits. The field split their strategies in an attempt to avoid too much traffic on track.
Victor Martins was first in the second group to set a flying lap, but Arvid Lindblad was faster behind. He jumped to P1 with a 1:25.492. Ritomo Miyata also had a stellar lap that was good enough for third. Pepe Martí, Sami Meguetounif and Joshua Durksen all had their laps deleted for track limits.
Durksen was forced to do another lap after his track deletion. This put him out of sequence with the rest of the field.
The Final Minutes
With seven minutes on the clock, the drivers were eager to get back on track and set their final flying laps. A few drivers elected to stay in the pits a little longer before joining them.
Victor Martins was once again the first to set his lap, but he was still behind Lindblad’s time. He went fourth fastest as Alex Dunne went second fastest. Luke Browning jumped to P3 before Crawford took his place as the times kept tumbling. No one was able to touch Lindblad’s time, though Maini missed out by just 18 hundreths of a second.
Sebastian Montoya jumped to provisional pole before Arvid Lindblad finished his lap and retook P1 with a 1:25.180. At just 17 years old, he is the youngest driver in Formula 2 history to start from pole position.
Leonardo Fornaroli will start the Sprint Race from Reverse Pole for Invicta Racing.
