F2 Qualifying | 2025 Austrian GP | Fornaroli Secures Pole

Leonardo Fornaroli secured his second pole position of the 2025 F2 Season following Qualifying at the 2025 Austrian GP.

Invicta Racing’s Fornaroli becomes the first repeat pole sitter of the season after edging out Victor Martins and Richard Verschoor in Spielberg.

Fornaroli Secures Early Pole

Invicta Racing’s Leonardo Fornaroli showed his qualifying prowess early with a 1:15.769, one thousandths of a second ahead of Victor Marins.

Fornaroli, who only managed a sixth in free practice earlier today, controlled the early stages of the session. The 2024 Formula 3 Champion was quick to better himself, dropping almost tow tenths off his time of a 1:15.574.

Championship leader Alex Dunne, struggled to match his form from free practice, sitting down in 20th. The McLaren Junior had a busy day on track, participating in Formula 1’s FP1, securing fourth in his first outing with the team.

After the first round of flying laps, Joshua Durksen managed to steal second, while Martins maintains his form in third.

10 Minutes To Go

After a first round of flying laps and a trip to the pits, the drivers were back on track to fight for pole position in Austria. Red Bull juniors Pepe Marti, Arvid Lindblad and Oliver Goethe looked to impress at their team’s home race.

Richard Verschoor set the pace with a 1:15.253, however ART Grand Prix’s Martins was quick to go better. Martins, who managed a fourth in free practice, bettered the MP Motorsport driver by 0.010.

With grip increasing, times across the Red Bull Ring dropped. As Gabriele Mini, Amaury Cordeel and Dunne all bettering their previous flying laps. Dunne made his move up to sixth, only two tenths behind Martins.

Fornaroli Goes Better

Fornaroli set the fastest times for Sector 1 and 2 as he went for his final flying lap. The Invicta Racing driver, who is yet to pick up his first win of the season, cleared Martins’ provisional pole time by 0.014 seconds. This secured him Pole Position once qualifying concluded for the F2 2025 Austrian GP.

Fornaroli is the first driver of the 2025 season to secure multiple feature race pole positions. Victor Martins will also start the Feature Race from the front row. MP Motorsports’ Verschoor rounds out the top three, only 0.024 seconds behind Fornaroli.

With the top 11 drivers only separated by less than three tents of a second, it was Van Amersfoort Racing’s John Bennet who secured his first Sprint Race pole position.

Bennet secured his best qualifying finish of the season in 10th, while Red Bull Academy driver Marti will start alongside him in the sprint race after securing 9th.

The Formula 2 2025 Austrian GP Sprint Race will be held on Saturday 28th June at 2:15pm local time.
