Richard Verschoor on the 2025 F2 Season & 2026 Plans

Richard Verschoor is the most experienced man in Formula 2. Now deep into his fifth season of the series, the MP Motorsport Driver has fast become one of the main talking points of the season so far. Sitting in P2 at the moment, five points ahead of Arvid Lindblad, the Dutch Driver looks poised to make a bid for the Championship which is three points away from him. EF1 spoke with Richard Verschoor about this and his plans for 2026.

2025 – Part II

As we enter the European leg of the season, Formula 2 visits a variety of tracks that Verschoor has raced at numerous times before. Does this mean then that there is one circuit in particular that Verschoor is looking forward to?

“To be fair, all the tracks that are coming up are tracks that I really really like. I really love Baku but I think the team doesn’t really like Baku so hopefully I can help them a bit there!” – Richard Verchoor

While not in Europe (unless you’re playing by Eurovision rules), it’s not difficult to see why Baku is a firm favourite for Verschoor. It’s challenging street course nature combined with the long start finish straight make it a modern classic in terms of layout.

Closer to Home

In the more immediate future though, Verschoor is keen to get back to the birthplace of Formula 1 – Silverstone.

“I think Silverstone, to come back to your question, Silverstone is a very strong track for us and also a track that I really like so I would pick that one as the favourite.” – Richard Verschoor

Last year, it was a mixed result for Verschoor at Silverstone. The mixed weather conditions came into play and tested the limits of all of the teams and drivers respectively. But with Verschoor back at MP, where he’s thrived once before and is doing so again now, perhaps that will be the necessary combination to weather any storm.

Looking Ahead to Austria

The Red Bull Ring in Austria is a circuit with a mixed history for Richard Verschoor. While he performs well on track, post race decision making can scupper him, as it has done on multiple occasions.

“Last year I remember the difficult weekend here with Trident but MP was on Pole Position you know so I think it’s a good balance of experience from the team and experience from my side as well and this year so far to be really honest I don’t think there’s been a race where my car wasn’t good so I’m really happy with the work they’ve been putting in.” – Richard Verschoor

Verschoor came across as cool, calm and collected ahead of this weekend’s racing in Austria. Here’s hoping that approach pays off and that for once, the Dutch Driver can have a smooth and drama free weekend in the Austrian hills.

Richard Verschoor in 2026

While we’re still firmly in the depths of the 2025 Season, it’s apparently never too early to look ahead to next year. That being said, Verschoor is remaining coy and tight lipped about what the future might hold for him. But he does have more help this year than he’s had previously – something for which he is grateful.

It’s good to have someone that’s looking out for me, so hopefully that helps a bit. I realise of course that it’s very hard, you know, to keep doing everything by yourself. If you have someone, you know, that knows a lot of people, a lot of teams, that is better to have someone looking out for you. So, yeah, I’m really happy with that and let’s see what road I will take.” – Richard Verschoor

As ever, anything can happen in motorsport – and is usually does. What this means for Richard Verschoor’s future in 2026 and beyond, we’ll just have to wait and see. But as Formula 2’s most experienced driver, you’d expect him to have a few options on the table
