F2 Feature Race | 2025 Hungarian GP | Fornaroli Claims Victory

Leonardo Fornaroli claims his third victory of the season for Invicta Racing at the F2 Feature Race for the 2025 Hungarian GP.

Invicta’s Fornaroli stormed home to claim his first F2 Feature Race victory. Fornaroli was joined on the podium by teammate Roman StanÄ›k in second and Jak Crawford in third.

This Weekend So Far…

Invicta Racing claimed a front row lockout in F2 Qualifying at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix. Roman Staněk claimed his maiden F2 pole position with a 1:28.779. The Czech driver was just a a tenth and a half quicker than his teammate, Fornaroli.

Narrowly hanging onto the lead, the Spaniard fiercely battled with Rodin Motorsport’s Alex Dunne right until the last lap to claim victory.

Pepe Marti claimed his third sprint victory of the season in the F2 Sprint Race. After a tough battle with his Campos teammate Arvid Lindblad, Marti was able to pull away to claim 11 points towards his championship charge. The Red Bull Junior led Alex Dunne and Jak Crawford around the Hungaroring.

Rolling Starts and VSC’s

After a damp morning in Hungary, the F2 Feature Race was ordered to start rolling, as the conditions on the track started to dry. Invicta Racing drivers’ Stanek and Fornaroli made the most of the start, pulling away quickly.

After a clean start by all drivers, it was Amaury Cordeel who brought out the first Virtual Safety Car. As smoke billowed out of his Rodin, the race was neutralised with all drivers having to maintain the same gap.

The VSC restart brought for good racing through the first few corners. Lindblad completed a double overtake on Oliver Goethe and Joshua Durksen for fifth. While, Prema’s Gabriele Mini overtook Richard Verschoor and Pepe Marti for ninth in the same spot.

Kush Maini was handed a five second penalty for a formation lap in figment. The DAMS Lucas Oil driver failing to stay within 10 car lengths of the car in front.

Victor Martins brought out the second Virtual Safety Car of the race on Lap 10. The Frenchman suffered from a mechanical failure on the exit of lap 12. Lindblad and Goethe were fighting again on the restart. Goethe ran wide, allowing Dunne and Durksen through to sixth and seventh respectively.

Overcuts and Undercuts

Fornaroli was able to clinch the net lead of the F2 Feature Race after overtaking his teammate, Stanek. While Stanek and Crawford pitted on lap 15, it was Fornaroli who was able to make the most of the free air coming out five seconds ahead. However, the Italian driver picked up a five second penalty for speeding in the pit lane.

Only eight laps later, the drivers on the alternate strategy were in the pits. Richard Verschoor was able to undercut Campos teammates Lindblad and Marti after pitting one and two laps ahead of them respectively.

While Stanek and Crawford were able to catch up to Fornaroli, their battle for second allowed the former F3 Champion to escape up the road. By Lap 31, Fornaroli passed Ritomo Miyata for the overall lead of the F2 Feature Race, over five seconds clear of second place.

Dino Beganovic made a last minute push for points. The Hitech driver, who started 14th was able to pass Goethe and Dunne for seventh. Vershcoor was able to hold Lindblad off for fifth. While Luke Browning held onto his qualifying position of fourth, securing valuable points for his championship fight.

Fornaroli clinched his maiden feature race win at the F2 Feature Race 2025 Hungarian GP, finishing 7.7 seconds clear of the field. Stanek held off Crawford to claim Invicta Racing’s second 1-2 of the season. Crawford rounded out the podium for the second time this weekend, claiming third in the Feature Race.

Championship Fight

Fornaroli extends his lead in the Formula 2 Championship as they head into the summer break. The former F3 Champion looking to go back-to-back as he intends his lead to 17 points. In the Teams Championship, Invicta Racing put valuable points between them and rivals, Campos racing, with the gap now 42 points.

F2 resumes again at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza on the 5th to the 7th of September.
