Pepe Marti took victory in the F2 Sprint Race at the 2025 Hungarian GP for Campos Racing. Alex Dunne takes another podium finish, securing second for Rodin Motorsport, with Jak Crawford taking third for DAMS Lucas Oil.
Reversing the top ten from Saturday’s Qualifying session, Pepe Marti lined up in Pole for Campos Racing.
Alex Dunne was beside him in second for Rodin Motorsport, with Marti’s teammate Arvid Lindblad in third.
Lights Out
It was a perfect start for Marti who was able to comfortably maintain the lead.
A slower start for Dunne meant that Lindblad was able to make the move, making it a Campos Racing 1-2.
Despite Victors Martins also trying to make the move on the Irish driver, he remained in fourth position after a Sprint Race podium in Spa last weekend.
Lap One Contact
A spin was on the cards for last weekend’s Feature Race winner Roman Stanek, who was tagged by Gabriele Mini at Turn 9.
But the Invicta Racing driver was able to continue, he fell to last place.
Fighting For Position
Oliver Goethe tried to make the move on Sunday’s Polesitter Leo Fornaroli.
Despite being unsuccessful, teammate Richard Verschoor was able to sneak through at Turn 3 into the final points-paying position.
Further down the order, Stanek was on a mission to recover from the Lap 1 contact with Mini, who received a 10-second time penalty.
Clearing Max Esterson, Ritomo Miyata and Cian Shields, he was in 19th position by lap five.
Battle For The Lead
By lap seven, Lindblad had DRS on the race leader, looking at his teammate into Turn 1.
Dunne was beginning to fall out of DRS range of the British driver, possibly a tyre management strategy.
A late send from Lindblad into Turn 1 saw him take from the fellow Red Bull junior. However, Marti fought back, re-taking the lead at Turn 3.
Consequently, Lindblad was told to remember to save his tyres for the end of the race for a bigger delta in the closing stages. Therefore, he dropped out of DRS range of his teammate out-front.
The Halfway Point
By lap 14, Dunne was eager to make the move into second position, with Jak Crawford also looking to take advantage as he closed in on Martins in fourth.
Much of the field had settled into the tyre conservation phase of the race, with the drivers holding position despite being in DRS range.
The PREMA of Mini served his ten-second time penalty, pitting for a set of Soft tyres.
Making Moves
A late dive by Dunne on lap 19 saw him take second from Lindblad, whose tyres were increasingly falling away.
With Martins also attempting an unsuccessful overtake, the DAMS of Crawford was able to take advantage, moving ahead of the French driver into fourth.
A DRS train was forming behind the Campos of Lindblad following Dunne’s earlier overtake, with Crawford fighting hard for the final podium position.
Safety Car
The battle for the position was forced to stop as the Safety Car was deployed. This was because Sebastian Montoya had come to a halt on the start/finish straight.
Green Flag
The green flag was then waved again with three laps to go.
Pepe Marti was able to comfortably lead the field once again, with teammate Lindblad already under pressure from Crawford.
The American was able to make the move into Turn 1, a crucial overtake in terms of his Championship fight.
Furthermore, Luke Browning sent a late dive on fellow Williams Junior Driver Martins for fifth.
The race leader was under significant pressure from Dunne into the final corner, with just +0.2s separating them as the chequered flag waved.
