Lando Norris found luck in Miami once again as he took victory in the F1 Sprint Race at the 2025 Miami GP.

Norris’ Luck In Miami

A late Safety Car, a result of Fernando Alonso finding the wall after contact with Liam Lawson on Lap 15, saw Norris take victory in the Sprint Race at the 2025 Miami GP.

“My luck in Miami seems pretty good at the minute so I’m happy,” said Norris. This came after a Safety Car also helped him secure his maiden victory at the track last year.

“The pace was still very good, it’s always just difficult these races, you never know when to box, you box early; it paid off for Lewis and he had a good strategy, or do you stay out later and maybe get the safety car,” reflected the British driver.

Lining up in third position, Norris made up one position at the start. This came after Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli found the runoff area at Turn 1.

Pitting on Lap 15, timing was on his side as the Safety Car was just called. This meant that he was able to reemerge ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri.

“It’s worked two years in a row. I probably would have preferred if this happened tomorrow instead of today, but I’ll take it, I’m happy and a good job by the team and it was good fun”

The final laps were completed under the Safety Car, with McLaren celebrating another 1-2 finish.

“That’s the plan,” Norris smiled when asked if he could secure the win once again in tomorrow’s race.

“It’s tricky,” he admitted. “There’s lots of quick guys out there and I felt good yesterday […] a couple of little mistakes but I’m ready to go again.”

Piastri’s Frustrating Finish

A fantastic start for Piastri saw him take the lead from Kimi Antonelli into Turn 1. The Australian driver was then seemingly managing for much of the race.

“Another great race start […] I had to get my elbows out on that one, happy with what I did.”

Although Piastri was investigated for his start, with Antonelli believing he was pushed off of the track, the stewards decided that there would be no further investigation.

However, the late Safety Car did not play out in his favour, with teammate Norris reaping the benefits instead.

“I feel like I did pretty much everything right there so obviously a bit disappointed to come away with second but that’s how it goes sometimes. Unfortunately, racing is a pretty cruel business.”

Pitting on Lap 14, this strategy was called to benefit Piastri. However, with the deployment of the Safety Car just one lap later, Piastri was required to slow done. This led to Norris re-emerging ahead of the Australian as he exited the pits.

“We had a little bit of pace on the table in Sprint Qualifying yesterday and hopefully we can use that for Quali this afternoon,” reflected Piastri. “I think we’ve got a quick car underneath us so we can try and make it even quicker and have a bit of an easier race tomorrow.”

Remaining optimistic, Piastri praised the continued strength of the McLaren, with further successes expected this weekend.

Hamilton’s Second Sprint Podium

Hamilton took another F1 Sprint Race podium at the 2025 Miami GP with Ferrari. This followed his victory at the 2025 Chinese GP.

“I’m so happy with that. It’s been a tough year so far […] I never thought it was going to rain in Miami, it’s the first time we’ve all been on the track in the wet here and what a race it provided us. A big thank you everybody.”

Teammate Charles Leclerc had a nightmare start to his day. He slid into the wall on the way to the grid. Prior to this, he had challenged the decision to be let out on Intermediate tyres in torrential rain.

With the damage so substantial, the Monegasque driver was unable to compete in the Sprint.

“I really did struggle on the Inters, I think everybody was struggling on them and I just made that call at the end […] that I was coming in […] take the risk, take the gamble.” reflected Hamilton.

One of the first to pit for the Soft tyres, Hamilton’s gamble was successful. The British driver was thus able to defend third position ahead of Max Verstappen.

“I wish we had another couple laps to give these guys [Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri] a fight, but congrats to McLaren as always.”
