Lando Norris set the benchmark in an extremely disrupted F1 FP2 session at the 2025 Dutch GP. Reminding everyone that he still has it, Fernando Alonso splits the McLarens, edging out Oscar Piastri in the sessions’ Top Three. FP2 continued the tricky conditions from FP1, rain spitting in the pit lane, gusty winds across the track, and two red flags to keep each team on their toes.

Early Laps and First Red Flag
Cool conditions and a Virtual Safety Car (VSC) start made for a cautious start to the session. Carlos Sainz briefly topped the timing sheets, but Alonso and then Norris quickly reset the pace.
In a surprising twist, Haas ‘rookie’ Oliver Bearman shot to P1 before Lance Stroll clipped the wall at Turn 3 to bring out the first red flag with 48 minutes left. At the stoppage, Bearman led from Norris, Bortoleto, and Hulkenberg.
Hadjar Retires and Drivers Push
Once running resumed, Isack Hadjar was ordered to park his Racing Bull with what appeared to be a power unit or hybrid issue. Given that he’s yet to take his fourth PU allocation, was this expected?
The track began to dry as the sun pushed through, and Nico Hülkenberg briefly grabbed P1 before Alonso laid down a 1:09.977. Norris immediately bettered it, with a lap that would stand for the remainder of the session, 1:09.089. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc slotted the Ferraris into the top six, but still trailed Norris by nearly a full second.
Albon Brings out another Red Flag
Another red flag came when Alexander Albon clipped the wall at Turn 1 and beached his Williams in the gravel with 21 minutes remaining. The restart gave teams one last chance for Quali sims, with most bolting on Softs.
Shortly after, most swapped back to race tyres in the final five minutes. Piastri improved to third, just 0.089s off his teammate. Max Verstappen had to settle for a quiet P5 at his home circuit.
As They Finish
Norris finished clear at the top, followed by Alonso, Piastri, Russell, Verstappen, Hamilton, Tsunoda, Leclerc, Colapinto, and Hulkenberg rounding out the top ten. Gasly languished in P19 after a muted session, while Hadjar’s early exit left him 20th.
Coming Up
Final practice at Zandvoort gets underway at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, with qualifying to follow at 03:00 p.m. With the McLarens looking sharp, Verstappen still searching for top speed, and Ferrari hovering just behind, qualifying could deliver another tightly fought session at the 2025 Dutch GP.
