Lando Norris topped the timings in F1 FP1 at the 2025 Dutch GP with a 1:10.278 for McLaren. Teammate Piastri was second with a 1:10.570, with Lance Stroll finishing third with a 1:10.779 for Aston Martin.

Four Dutch Grands Prix have been won from Pole since the race returned in 2021, with Saturday’s Qualifying being crucial.

Furthermore, the weather is also going to be a considerable factor this weekend, with adverse conditions expected for the entirety of the weekend.

Green Light

A very early Virtual Safety Car was present in Sectors 1 and 2 as the green light was shown.

Nico Hulkenberg led over half of the grid onto the track, all on the Medium tyres.

As the Virtual Safety Car ended, the times began to tumble.

Home-hero Max Verstappen immediately topped the grid with a 1:12.767 for Red Bull.

However, Oscar Piastri quickly bettered him with a 1:12.678 for McLaren. Teammate Lando Norris slotted into third.

Fernando Alonso was the next driver to occupy the top spot with a 1:12.577 for Aston Martin.

A brief yellow flag was waved as Lewis Hamilton spun at Turn 2, claiming he now had “flat spots all round.”

Furthermore, Yuki Tsunoda had a moment into the chicane at Turn 11, although he also managed to keep the car going.

Red Flag

With 49 minutes remaining, the red flag was waved as Kimi Antonelli found himself stuck in the gravel at the exit of Turn 9.

A frustrating mistake for the Mercedes driver whose session was now cut short, which may be damaging as the rain seemingly approaches.

As things stood, Verstappen was on top with a 1:12.101 for Red Bull. He was followed by the Williams drivers of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon respectively.

Green Flag

As the green flag was waved, the times began tumbling once again.

George Russell slotted into second with a 1:12.140 for Mercedes. Norris into third with a 1:12.245 for McLaren after a moment at Turn 11.

Additionally, Sainz also found the gravel at the same section of the track, with this corner proving tricky.

Championship leader Piastri topped the timings with a 1:11.794 on the Soft tyres, with Verstappen being the only other driver in the 1:11s.

With three purple sectors, Norris replaced his teammate at the top with an impressive 1:10.278. The Australian tried to respond once again yet was +0.422s down despite a purple Sector 1.

30 Minutes Remaining

With 30 minutes remaining, it was McLaren who dominated the field. Sainz was third with a 1:11.502 for Williams.

Alonso was the third driver to lap in the 1:10s, setting a 1:10.841 for Aston Martin. The Silverstone-based team have looked strong in practice as of late, with their performance continuing early at Zandvoort.

Piastri closed the gap to Norris yet was still three-tenths of a second slower than his teammate.

10 Minutes Remaining

McLaren have finished 1-2 in the last four consecutive Grands Prix, with their dominance seemingly still present after the summer break.

Yuki Tsunoda impeded the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll on a quick lap, with the Canadian noticeably unhappy. Despite this, he slotted into third with a 1:10.779.

Notably, it was Ferrari who were 1.6s off the pace, with Charles Leclerc and Hamilton in P14 and P15 respectively.

With just a few minutes remaining, Russell had a big moment at Turn 1, managing to keep the momentum to get to the exit road.

Suffering with a similar issue to teammate Antonelli, there was not enough end in the W16.

After the chequered flag waved, it was an unusual moment for Verstappen who found himself beached in the gravel at Turn 1 after a practice start.

Lando Norris topped the timings in F1 FP1 at the 2025 Dutch GP with a 1:10.278 for McLaren. Teammate Piastri was second with a 1:10.570, with Lance Stroll finishing third with a 1:10.779 for Aston Martin.
