Maya Weug won Race 2 of F1 Academy’s fifth round, which took place at Zandvoort. Weug’s win made her the second Dutch F1A driver to win that weekend, following Nina Gademan’s P1 finish in Race 1.

A Dominant Comeback

Weug, who races for MP Motorsport on behalf of Ferrari, stood third on the podium at the end of Race 1, behind Lia Block and Gademan. She started Race 2 on pole.

The race presented an opportunity for Weug to assert her dominance, and she took it. Weug ran away from the rest of the grid, pulling ahead by five seconds by Lap 10.

She held her own during the remaining laps, with each passing second bringing her closer to the P1 result she landed on.

Ella Lloyd

Penalty for Lloyd

McLaren’s Ella Lloyd received a five-second time penalty after the Stewards determined she’d had a false start.

Her race began quickly, as she assumed a position from Alisha Palmowski, before battling with her during the laps to follow.

The penalty bumped Lloyd off the podium, making room for the current championship leader, Doriane Pin, to claim P3 and maintain her title lead.

Another False Start

ART Grand Prix’s Lia Block received a ten-second time penalty for a false start.

She accidentally pulled into the grid slot of Red Bull Ford’s Chloe Chambers, whose spot was vacant after she suffered a mechanical issue on the formation lap. The issue left her unable to race.

This penalty put Block, who had finished second in Race 1, out of the points for Race 2.

Looking Forward

As of right now, only twenty points separate Weug from championship leader Pin. Chambers is a mere fourteen points behind Weug.
