Chloe Chambers took her third pole position in four race weekends as F1 Academy completed qualifying at the 2025 Canadian GP for the first time.
It will be a birthday weekend to remember for Chambers. The American stormed ahead of the field, securing pole with a 1:38.125.
Chambers, who turns 21 tomorrow, will start on pole for races 1 and 3 this weekend. After a washout of the second race at the Miami GP, race organisers moving the race to the Saturday morning in Canada.
Larsen sets early pace
The Tommy Hilfiger backed driver was almost untouchable as she set the early pace of qualifying. Larsen, who is still in her first season in F1 Academy, set an early pace with a 1:40.910.
Times tumbled quickly, but Larsen held her form as she set a 1:39.645 with twenty minutes left in the session.
Prema Racing drivers Pin, Gademan and Hausmann gambled on track evolution, spending the first ten minutes of qualifying in the pits.
In a track that is brand new to all of the 18 drivers competing this weekend, it was Larsen, Ella Lloyd and Lia Block who showed their form early in qualifying, all falling sitting under the 1:40’s
Track evolution
As the session progressed, the lap times fell. Chambers and Alisha Palmowski showed their Free Practice form with the two going back and forth on pole.
Larsen who showed early form was unable to compete with the Campos duo as Chambers set the mark with a 1:39.089, with Palmowski only +0.171 behind.
Pin showed the field why she is currently fighting for the lead of the championship. She slotted into the field +0.336 behind the American driver.
With less than ten minutes to go, Palmowski was the first driver to drop into the 1:38’s, setting herself 0.057 seconds ahead of her teammate with a 1:38.749.
Cheers for Chambers, Woes for Weug
While Chambers made her mark on Pin and Palmowski, clearing them both by over half a second with a 1:38.125. It was championship leader, Maya Weug who struggled to compete, only managing a 15th, +1.602 seconds behind the Campos driver.
The MP Motorsport driver, who is supported by Ferrari has struggled at the new circuit location, failing to set a time in free practice earlier this morning. Weug currently leads the championship with 65 points.
Campos on top
Campos Racing were untouchable, with Chambers and Palmowski securing their second front row lock out for the season.
Pin starts from the second row with Lloyd who was +0.757 seconds from pole. The McLaren junior, showed her consistency throughout the session.
Pin, who is in her second season, is hoping to secure the championship lead this weekend. The Mercedes supported driver is only one point behind Weug after three weekends of racing.
Chambers and Palmowski both have an opportunity to close the gap in the championship, and hopefully secure wins this weekend.
Chong gets Reverse Grid Pole
While Chambers made her mark at the top off the field, it was Charlotte Tilbury backed driver Chloe Chong who will start Race 2 from pole position after securing 8th in qualifying.
Prema Racing supported by Alpine Academy driver, Nina Gademan will start from second, as she looks to move up the championship standings.
