Its the start of the F2 2022 Season, kicking off in Bahrain along side F1, and F3 all starting their seasons as well.

11 Teams with 2 drivers each, (Full driver line up can be found here: https://everythingtrackside.com/a-look-into-the-upcoming-f2-2022-season/

So lets understand how a race weekend looks within F2. Similar to F1 in which its Friday-Sunday format the style of races is a bit different as well with their points system.

Friday starts with a 45 minutes practice session, this normally follows after F3 free practice or before F1 Free Practice 1. Later on in the day its Qualifying a 30 minute session, new for 2022 is that a driver can win points if they win pole position they are awarded 2 points.

Saturday is a single event which is the sprint race this is 45 minutes +1 Lap time frame, however the starting grid is a bit different the top 10 that finished in qualifying on Friday are reversed for example pole position will start p10 for only the sprint race. The sprint race points system has been revised for the 2022 season and its as follows:

As well new for 2022 season fastest lap is awarded a point, like how F1 is on a Sunday race.

Sunday is the big day for F2 its the feature race, the time frame is run over 60 minutes +1 lap. The grid line-up is determined by the position standings from the qualifying race that took place on Friday. The points system is:

Similar to the sprint race new for 2022 fastest lap will be awarded a point.

Standings are:

  • A maximum of 39 points can be allocated per race weekend in the driver championships
  • A maximum of 65 points can be allocated per race weekend in the team championships

Who do you think will come out on top? Will Prema win it again this year? Does Dennis Hauger have a chance to join the likes of Oscar Pisatri, Charles LeClerc and George Russell to have back to back world champion wins?
