As we head into the British Grand Prix, Esteban Ocon has reflected on the current state of Alpine at Silverstone. After a promising weekend in Barcelona, the Frenchman is feeling good about his chances this weekend.

When asked if he was confident about heading back into the points this weekend, Ocon said, “Yeah, I think we’re improving.” After a tough weekend in Austria, he lost a component of his car on the kerbs and subsequently a loss of performance. He hopes to build on the lessons learnt at Silverstone.

“I Can’t Wait to be Started”

“It’s much more interesting now that we are able to be fighting for points and interesting results compared to how it was, you know, at the beginning of the season.

“So, yeah, looking forward to see what we can do here, it’s gonna be an exciting one. It’s always great to drive these cars around Silverstone, and yeah, I can’t wait to be started.”

His Future

He was also asked about the current driver’s market following his departure from Alpine at the end of the season. The French team and Frenchman are parting ways after their four-season long relationship. He joined the Enstone-based team in 2020. He then achieved his and Alpine’s first Grand Prix win at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix.

It was clear that he could not say much. However, Ocon did reveal that “it’s going well at the moment on that side for me. I hope, you know, in the next couple of races I’ll be able to speak more about it.”

On Racing Verstappen

Last weekend at the Austrian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris dominated the headlines following their racing incident. On the 67th lap the pair collided, which saw Norris DNF and Verstappen finish P5 with a 10-second penalty.

Debate has stirred since regarding who is at fault. Others have wondered whether Verstappen has changed since his 2021 title battle with Lewis Hamilton. Many similar incidents occurred due to the nature of their close racing, which resulted in Verstappen winning his first title.

At the Drivers’ Press Conference, each participating driver was asked to share their thoughts. While some promptly did, Ocon simply stated, “I mean, I’m not racing Max at the moment. We are not in the same category, so yeah, not for me to comment.”
