Dan Rowbottom took his second BTCC win of the year in race three at Thruxton.
Rowbottom had a good start and was involved in a three wide moment on the run up to the complex with teammate Dan Cammish and Team Virtu’s Senna Proctor. Rowbottom took another place off Toyota’s James Dorlin later on in the first lap, putting him up to second position. But Rowbottom didnt waste any time getting past race leader Jake Hill. He launched his Napa Ford down the inside of seagrave corner in an authorative move to claim first place. The Kidderminster born driver stormed away from the rest of the pack and won the race with a two second buffer from Tom Ingram.
Hill and Sutton collide
One of the biggest talking points from race three is the collision between Hill and Sutton at Noble corner. Hill was starting to tumble down the order after being overtaken by Cammish on lap 11. But lap 12 saw Sutton try a move around the outside of Hill at the very fast Noble corner which did not end well for the pair. Hill slid into Sutton and spun him around, Sutton saving the slide beautifully but losing some places. Hill later pitted as grass clogged his radiators which took him out of contention. Sutton recovered well from the incident and still managed to claim a fifth place finish.
Ingram secures third podium of the day
A successful weekend at Thruxton has seen Tom Ingram close the gap to Ash Sutton in the drivers standings to just nine points. Ingram had three incredible races and really had to work for a second place finish in race three. Ingram was passed by Sutton and then watched his title rival spin out after contact with Jake Hill. This left Ingram in third place with Cammish and Rowbottom up the road for him to reel in. Ingram caught Cammish on the penultimate lap of the race and made his move around the outside of the club chicane. But he couldn’t catch Rowbottom in time and settled for second place and a mighty points haul.
Morgan’s missery at Thruxton
Team Virtu’s Adam Morgan had a weekend to forget at Thruxton, compiled by a crash in race three. Morgan crashed his Hyundai into the barrier hard at the first corner, bringing out a safety car. The replays showed Morgan dipping a wheel into the grass which sent him into a spin.
Proctor preforms well in BTCC return
Senna Proctor achieved his best result of the day in race three at Thruxton on his return to the BTCC. The two time race winner claimed a brilliant fourth place finish after starting on the front row. Proctor has proved that he will be a factor for podiums and race wins once he gets a bit more experience in the Hyundai.
With the flag falling for the final time today at Thruxton, we now look forward to round five of the British Touring Car Championship at Oulton park in two weeks time.
