For the first time in 2025, Tom Ingram has driven his Team Virtu Hyundai to victory ahead of Dan Cammish and hard charging Josh Cook.
Racing got underway for round 10 of the BTCC season at Thruxton in conditions completely different to those drivers qualified in yesterday. Blue skies, sunshine and a dry track greeted the drivers for the first race of the day.
Fireworks between the contenders
Polesitter Ash Sutton duelled throughout the first lap with title rival Ingram. Ingram initially won out with a perfect move around the outside of the final chicane. A safety car halted their battle as Max Hall and Sam Osborne collided, which Sutton retook the lead under. It was deemed that Ingram got the move done just as the safety car was called. It didn’t take long for them to pick up where they left off, Ingram attempting another move into the club chicane. But, the pair collided for the first time this season as both escaped to the runoff. Ingram came out of the tussle first position and didn’t look back for the rest of the race, becoming the ninth different winner of the season. Sutton eventaully slipped down to fourth place at the flag.
Cook shines in race one
The ‘King of Thruxton’ demonstrated why he is always one to watch at the Hampshire circuit, no matter what is thrown at him. Josh Cook started 14th after a heavy crash in qualifying yesterday. Cook went to hospital after the issue for precautionary checks and was cleared to race last night. One Motorsport finished rebuilding Cook’s Honda Civic at 1:30Am on Sunday morning, an effort that Cook would pay back immediately. The Bath born driver worked his way through the field and claimed an independent win and a remarkable third place overall.
There were also some great results all throughout the top ten. Dan Rowbottom rounded out the top five after starting tenth on the grid, finishing just behind his teammate Sutton.
Jake Hill finsihed sixth and picked up some great points, also showing that the BMW has good pace.
Adam Morgan had a great race, moving up eight places from his starting position to finish in P8.
Senna Proctor also managed to claim a ninth place finish. Whilst he did lose three places from where he qualified, Proctor was pleased to be in the top 10 in his first race back in the BTCC.
Aron Taylor-Smith was disqualified from qualifying yesterday following a ride height infringement on his Toyota. But he didn’t let that get to him, he moved up 11 places and finished race one at Thruxton in P12.
