A New Challenge?
The most successful car designer in Formula 1 history could be looking for a new challenge. According to Damon Hill that new challenge could come in the form of the silver arrows, who are not so silver this year.
In a recent podcast (F1 Nation) Hill speculated that a team switch could be on the cards for Newey, given his Red Bull contract comes to an end this year.
Newey has become one of the most influential figures in modern Formula 1 history, helping Red Bull win numerous driver and constructor championships. Making him one of, if not the most successful car designer. And with 11 constructor championships under his belt and no signs of stopping.
Rumour Has It
But where did such a rumour come from? What put such a crazy idea into Damon Hill’s head?

Newey was spotted observing the Mercedes W14 and its front wing, aka a potential sign he’s interested in the 7 time champions.
With Mercedes’ current performance in the first two races of the 2023 season, they could certainly use the help from someone like Newey. But will loyalty trump challenge? After 17 years with Red Bull could Newey really be swayed by something new and shiny?
Will the aerodynamicist be at Red Bull next year? Or will he be sporting a new colour? Or perhaps his Formula 1 days are simply coming to an end…
Only time will tell.
