Following the F2 Sprint Race on the streets of Monaco, Roman Bilinski reflected on claiming his maiden podium, as a rookie in the series.
Celebrating his Rookie Podium
“I think it’s something we deserve. It’s not been the easiest start of the season for the team, in general, but I’m very happy to be on the podium,” said the DAMS driver.
“To also share it with two great drivers as well is really good.”
Bilinski was on the same step of the podium following the 2025 F3 Monaco Feature Race, just one year ago.
When asked about the charm of this historic track, he reflected on his performance.
“Yes, it was a good race for me last year, but I think it’s one of those tracks you get in the car, and you just send it and you give everything you can,” said the Polish driver.
“It’s definitely not easy, especially when the guy in first is quite fast. I tried to put him under pressure for as long as I could, but around Monaco, there’s only so much you can do. Then, getting to the late stages in my race, I started to struggle with the tyres. I just tried everything I could today. It wasn’t quite enough, but we’ll learn overnight and move on.”
Points Scored and Lost
Reflecting on the disparity between his consistent Sprint Race performances versus more challenging Feature Races, Bilinski clarified that the focus remains on maximising points at every opportunity.
“The sprint races have been strong, I haven’t done many Feature Races. I didn’t even start Miami, but we have the potential as a team. I think we’ve shown that this year,” said the Polish driver.
“Dino has been very strong. Myself, I’ve had pace, but we now need to fully extract it. I think this weekend shows a bit more of what we can do, It’s just piecing everything together. A little bit of reliability as well, but this is motorsport. That’s always the case in our sport. We’re pushing hard as a team, and we’ll see.”
Monaco Revisited
Having already stood on the podium in Monaco last year, Bilinski arrived with valuable experience around one of motorsport’s most demanding circuits.
Asked about the differences between then and now, he reflected on the lessons learned and the adjustments that have shaped his approach this season.
“I think Monaco is one of those tracks, […] you just get in the car and you give everything. It rewards those who dare to go that close to the barrier and carry that much speed. I think definitely the preparation is very important. We prepare on the simulator and everything like this,” explained the DAMS driver.
“Driving here in Formula 3 and having a good weekend here makes me go into this weekend with a lot of confidence. For one of the first times this season, you go back to a track where you know more what’s going on, more […] your references and you’ve driven the track more and more.“
