Q1 – The Light Goes Green

Everyone was on soft tyres to begin the qualifying session. Kick Sauber were the first team to head onto the track, with nobody else wanting to be first out. Pierre Gasly reported some light drizzle with sixteen minutes to go of Q1.

Colapinto Spins!

With just 8 minutes to go of Q1, Franco Colapinto spun on the final corner of the lap, sending him into the barriers under the grandstands. He managed to drive out of the wall and back onto the track, but had to stop due to dropping debris and gravel, which led to a red flag.

An easy mistake for Colapinto led to heartbreak for the driver who ends his Qualifying session at the back of the pack.

Q1 Resumes

Track conditions started to deteriorate as qualifying resumes, with Oscar Piastri reporting some slightly heavier rain coming down. Lewis Hamilton had also reported that track conditions were slipper than earlier in the session.

Ollie Bearman completed an amazing lap for Haas, placing his car in third place. Bearman will need to push the car to its limits in qualifying, after receiving a ten place grid penalty in FP3 earlier today.

Q2 – Identical Laps

Max Verstappen was first out of the pits, leading the way for the second part of qualifying. He set a 1m 25.316s which Piastri later precisely matched! However, it was not long before Lando Norris put his car in first, by almost a tenth of a second.

Fernando Alonso was displeased with Kimi Antonelli, after he was held up behind his slow moving car. He added it would be “good” if Antonelli picked up another grid penalty, after already picking up a three place grid penalty for last weeks collision with Verstappen in Austria.

Q3 – The Top Ten Shootout

All four of the British drivers made it into Q3 this weekend, making for an exciting top ten shootout here at Silverstone. The drivers were eager to get out and set fast laps with the skies still looking grey.

It was a nail biting final few minutes of qualifying, with some very close calls from a few drivers who we saw pushing their cars to the limit. Piastri lost some time on his final lap after sliding into the final few corners, which led to him losing pole to Verstappen.
