F1 Academy Race 1 | 2025 Canadian GP | Pin Claims Third Victory of the Season

Dorian Pin claimed victory in Race 1 of the F1 Academy 2025 Canadian GP weekend. The Mercedes supported driver stayed out of trouble, driving home to not only her third victory of the 2025 F1 Academy season, but also the championship lead.

After Race 2 of the Miami GP was postponed, the field was set for the first of three races in Montreal. Chloe Chambers started from pole, while Alisha Palmowski and Dorian Pin charged from behind. Weug, who has struggled to find her footing here in Canada, started the race from tenth.

Campos Teammates Collide!

Campos teammates Chloe Chambers and Alisha Palmowski had their first of two front row lockouts for the weekend. Palmowski, who is supported by Red Bull Racing, challenged her teammate from lights out.

By the start of the second lap, Palmowski was all over Chambers. The British driver was challenging the American for the race lead.

Palmowski almost gained the lead in this opening stint of the race. That was until a lock up into turn 2 ran the two Campos Racing cars onto the grass. Chambers picked up substantial front wing damage as a result.

Pin Powers Past

Chambers received a Black and Orange Flag and was called into the pits. Therefore, it was Dorian Pin who took control over the race.

With championship rival Maya Weug struggling with mechanical issues, Pin was able to keep Rodin Motorsport’s Ella Lloyd and Emma Felbermayr at bay. She built up a gap to them of over 1.4 seconds.

The Wall of Champions Strikes Again

Meanwhile, wildcard entry Mathilda Paatz was making her mark on the race. The German had started at the back of the grid due to not qualifying in Miami. The Gatorade backed driver drove her way up to 11th place, battling Palmowski and Chloe Chong for a points paying position.

After a tight three way battle into the final corners, Paatz was the first driver of the weekend to make contact with the infamous Wall of Champions. This brought out the first safety car of the race with only 7 laps to go.

From Green to Yellow

With three laps to go, green flags were shown and the remaining 17 cars were all in the hunt for points.

There were not any major incidents on the restart. But it didn’t take long before Racing Bulls supported driver Rafaela Ferreira brought out the second safety car of the race.

After taking the escape road, Ferreira rejoined straight into the side of Chong’s car, forcing the Charlotte Tilbury car into the wall.

With the pack still relatively close after the first restart, the collision left many of the back markers scrambling to avoid the scene.

Heading into turn ten, Ciconte and Crone made contact, with the Australian driver receiving significant front wing damage.

Checkered Flag

Dorian Pin followed the safety car across the line for the final time, picking up 25 points towards her championship campaign.

McLaren’s Ella Lloyd made her way back onto the podium with a second place. Rodin Motorsport teammate and Kick Sauber supported driver Emma Felbermayr made her podium debut for third. She’d had to hold of Nina Gademan just behind in fourth to achieve this.

After their collision in lap two, Palmowski and Chambers, finished Race 1 of the 2025 F1 Academy Canadian GP weekend in eighth and ninth respectively.
