In a surprising turn of events at the second Formula One pre-season test of the 2025 season, Lewis Hamilton found himself in the barriers after a dramatic crash in his new Ferrari. A startling setback for the man who has made an incredible blockbuster career move.

A Sudden Setback in Barcelona

The incident occurred on the penultimate day of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Hamilton crashed whilst driving a 2023 Ferrari car on one of the track’s faster corners. The British driver lost control of the car and went sliding straight into the barriers. Thankfully, although with significant damage to the car, Hamilton was unharmed and escaped without injury.

What Went Wrong?

The cause of the incident appears to be related to mechanical failure or an issue with the car’s setup, rather than driver error. F1 testing often involves pushing the cars to their very limit. With new setups and configurations; therefore, incidents like this are not unheard of.

A Good Omen?

2007: lewis Hamilton crashes his McLaren

Ready to make his Formula One debut, Lewis Hamilton crashed his new McLaren during pre-season testing in Valencia. This crash was a wobbly start to the sport for Hamilton, but was not a sign of bad luck. Lewis Hamilton went on to secure 12 podiums and 4 wins throughout the 2007 season, narrowly missing out on the championship. He did, however, win the 2008 championship the following year.

2013: Lewis Hamilton crashes his Mercedes

On the second morning of pre season testing for Mercedes, Hamilton suffered a brake issue, causing him to hit the barrier. Everyone thought this move to Mercedes was high risk, and the testing session seemed to back this theory. However, Lewis secured 5 podiums and 1 win throughout the season. Much like his start for McLaren, Lewis won the championship in 2014 the year after.

2025: Lewis Hamilton crashes his Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton crashes Ferrari in second F1 test of the 2025 season. This seemingly disastrous start to his Ferrari debut could be a good omen in disguise, if it follows the same pattern of Lewis’ other F1 career moves. Hopefully we see Hamilton winning some races this year, and a potential championship win in 2025/2026!

In a sport as fast-paced and high-pressure as Formula One, crashes, whether big or small, are an inevitable part of the journey. For Lewis and Ferrari, the 2025 pre-season testing crash is an early test of resilience and adaptation for the whole team. Hopefully, the crash is a sign of good things to come. Following Hamilton’s past patterns, we could see great things for him and the team in the near future.
