Yuki Tsunoda: Red Bull Promotion on the Horizon?

Yuki Tsunoda has “impressed” Red Bull during his post season test with the team. Leaving the question, is a Red Bull promotion on the cards for the Japanese driver?

Red Bull Testing Results

Tsunoda got his first full test with Red Bull Racing’s 2024 car during the post-season Abu Dhabi tyre test. This opportunity was a dream come true for the young Japanese driver, who has been a part of the Red Bull family since 2019.

Furthermore, this test is well-timed as Red Bull are reportedly still finalising their lineup for the 2025 season. With Lawson and Perez also being in contention for the coveted Red Bull seat.

Despite doubts about Tsunoda’s technical feedback and behaviour in the car, the young driver felt his test performance addressed these concerns. “I’ve heard they (Red Bull) were particularly impressed with my feedback, not just trackside but also from engineers at the Milton Keynes factory.” Tsunoda shared.

Laurent Mekies Hails Tsunoda’s 2024 campaign

Visa Cash App Racing Bulls Team Boss Laurent Mekies has commended Yuki Tsunoda for an “outstanding” 2024 season. The team boss was full of praise as he described Tsunoda’s performances as a level “nobody could have predicted.” Slightly hinting at the prospect of a Red Bull promotion in the future.

2024 was the fourth year the Japanese driver was with the VCARB/ AlphaTauri team. It was a career best year as he managed to finish in 12th place in the drivers’ championship. Ending the season in style with a P3 Qualifying result in São Paulo’s rain-soaked session.

Chasing the Red Bull Dream

Though Tsunoda remains an underdog for a Red Bull promotion, he remains optimistic. “The chances are 50-50. Of course, driving for Red Bull would be a dream, but I’m grateful for the support I have now. My focus is on delivering strong performances and helping develop the car,” Tsunoda explained.

With Red Bull reportedly set to finalise their 2025 line-up in the coming week, Tsunoda is hoping it will be him getting the call up.
