Esteban Ocon Says ‘Damage Limitation’ To Blame For Small Points Haul

Esteban Ocon reflects after a mixed Spanish Grand Prix weekend, putting his low-points scoring position down to a lack of downforce which was found during the race.

“They (the team) saw a loss in downforce, I don’t know if it is damage or not. We need to investigate if that is the case.”

“There was clearly something that didn’t go right for us this race.” he added.

The 27-year-old had a lonely race, finishing in 10th, seven seconds ahead of Haas driver Nico Hülkenberg, and 10 seconds behind teammate Pierre Gasly in P9.

This marks the second double-points finish for the Enstone Team this season, continuing the streak from Canada two weeks ago.

Ocon stays positive

Even with finishing in the middle of the pack due to what he called ‘damage limitation’, the Frenchman is taking every positive he can from this result:

“On these kinds of days earlier on in the year we would have been last.” Ocon said.

Saturday marked the second Q3 appearance for Alpine this season, following Pierre Gasly’s P10 in Monaco. This also comes with Esteban recording his first top 10-shootout since the 2023 United States Grand Prix.

Points for Esteban Ocon

The points finish helps continue the French Team’s points-scoring streak to three weekends in a row, putting them ahead of Williams by five points and Haas by one point in the Constructors Championship.

Although this will be the final Spanish Grand Prix in Alpine colours for Esteban Ocon, he will be fighting tooth and nail with his outgoing team to show potential employers what he can achieve.

Currently, contested seats on the 2025 Formula One market include teams such as Mercedes, Haas, Sauber and Williams.
