Ferrari’s Formula 1 technical director Enrico Cardile is reportedly in Aston Martin’s sights. Sources claim the British team has made a formal approach for the man to swap Maranello for Silverstone.

Lawrence Stroll, owner of Aston Martin, continues his efforts to transform the team into a championship-winning one. Cardile has emerged as a key target to strengthen their technical line-up.

Cardile leads Ferrari’s chassis and aerodynamics department and has developed the team’s recent contenders.

He transitioned to Ferrari’s F1 operations from the Gran Turismo program in 2016, bringing expertise that has been instrumental in the team’s recent successes.

Under his guidance, the SF-24 has become a race-winning car. Charles Leclerc recently secured a victory at the Monaco Grand Prix where Carlos Sainz also secured P3. Cardile’s achievements have not gone unnoticed, catching the eye of rival teams, including Aston Martin.

It’s Getting Serious…

Aston Martin has ambitious goals, and Lawrence Stroll has been actively trying to attract highly skilled professionals. Recently, he made an effort to lure Red Bull’s departing chief technical officer Adrian Newey. However, Newey, who is also contemplating a potential move to Ferrari, has yet to make a final decision.

This uncertainty has prompted Aston Martin to target Cardile as a prime candidate. The British team plans to swoop in if a Newey arrival at Ferrari creates an environment that overshadows Cardile’s role.

Newey’s potential involvement with Ferrari would likely be in a consulting capacity and his focus would be on developing the 2026 car.

Vasseur Talks

Despite this, his presence could conceal the contributions of Ferrari’s existing technical team, including Cardile. Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, has emphasised the importance of maintaining stability within the team, rather than being preoccupied with external speculation.

In a recent interview, Vasseur highlighted his priority of ensuring the continuity and stability of his current staff.

He stated, “The most important [thing] is the stability of the team. As I said before, we are doing a good job. We are going in the right direction.”

When questioned about his interactions with Newey, Vasseur remarked, “I speak to everybody in the paddock when we meet, because we are well educated! On this point, I don’t want to make any comment because every single answer could be interpreted.”

While Newey takes his time to decide his next career move in F1, Aston Martin’s interest in Cardile suggests they are strategically bolstering their technical team regardless of his decision.

As Stroll looks to build a winning team, securing a talent like Cardile could be a significant step towards this aspiration.

Will we see Aston Martin emerge as a top team in the near future?
