Formula E have announced changes to their broadcasting line-up ahead of the Jakarta E-Prix, with long-time commentator Jack Nicholls leaving the series with immediate effect.
Nicholls has led commentary for the all-electric series since its inception in 2014, his voice and energy quicky becoming synonymous with the sport and its growth. The reasons behind Nicholl’s departure are unknown but it is understood that he was only been on site for four of the 8 rounds so far this season.
Formula E confirmed that Nicholls would be replaced by Channel 4 F1 commentator Ben Edwards, who will be in the commentary box beside the returning Karun Chandhok for rounds 10 and 11 in Jakarta.
“I am very excited to get back behind the mic with Formula E as the on-track action this season is a commentator’s dream. The championship is more competitive than ever and I get to bring that to life for viewers around the world. I’m delighted to be joining the team and calling the action in Jakarta”.

Vernon Kay will also leave the series immediately, as he moves into a new role as the host of a brand new BBC Radio 2 show. Kay has led the presenting team on the ground after joining the series in 2017.
Radzi Chinyanganya will step into Kay’s role for Jakarta, with Saunders Carmichael-Brown taking over pit-lane reporting with fan-favourite pundits Nelson Piquet Jr., Oliver Askew and Kelvin Van Der Linde returning. Nicki Shields will return from a break after Jakarta and will become the lead presenter for Formula E from the Southwire Portland E-Prix.
Looking Ahead
Formula E has seen massive growth since its commencement, welcoming pools of talent from across the world and bringing fans to a new era of all-electric racing. The new Gen3 cars were unveiled ahead of Season 9 with four new races being added to the ever-growing Formula E calendar. The series welcomed races in Cape Town, Brazil, Hyderabad and Portland.
Changes to the broadcasting line-up demonstrate the sports growth and the determination to welcome new and existing talents to the series. Whilst the loss of Jack Nicholls and the iconic line “And we go green!” is disappointing for many fans, big things are on the horizon for Formula E and electric racing.
