Formula E returns in 2023 with a record 16 races, spanning 10 different countries.

The championship will return to fan-favourite circuits and welcomes brand new tracks to the calendar for the introduction of Gen3.

Teams and drivers, both new and old, will be looking to impress in Season 9 from the outset. With a new car and new regulations, the racing will be closer and more challenging than ever.

The 2023 Formula E Calendar takes the series to new heights across the world.

New Venues Added to the 2023 Formula E Calendar

The first of 4 new venues is unveiled at round 4 as Formula E heads to India for the first time at the inaugural Hyderabad E-prix. This will be the first major international racing event to be held in India since the 2013 F1 Indian GP at the Buddh International Circuit – where Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel became 4-time F1 World Champions.

On the 25th of February, round 5 launches the new Cape Town E-prix, replacing Seoul on the 2023 Calendar. The track winds through the City’s Green Point and Waterfront districts, running along the Oceanfront and including two sharp chicanes that will be overtaking hotspots.

“We are excited to announce Cape Town as a new destination for our series in Series 9…we cannot wait to see the futuristic Gen3 race cars competing against the iconic natural backdrop of Table Mountain”.

Alberto Longo, Co-Founder & Chief Championship Officer of Formula E

A month later, the electric circus travels across the Atlantic ocean for round 6 at the first ever Sao-Paulo E-prix. The circuit comprises three long straights with tight chicanes connecting them, fast turns and tight walls bring extra pressure for the drivers to be perfect.

Late in the season, Formula E returns to the USA for the first ever Portland E-prix. The championship has raced in the US every year since season 1 with the exception of season 6, due to Covid-19 regulations. Over its tenure, venues in the states have included Miami, Long Beach, and New York – Portland will be added to this list in 2023.

“We are excited to bring the premier electric motorsport world championship to Portland for the first time…The USA remains an important market for Formula E. We are delighted to maintain that critical presence and engage a new audience”.

The return of fan-favourite circuits

The season kicks off with Race 1 in Mexico City at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, 2,250m above sea level. Teams and drivers will get their first taste of Gen3 racing in the high altitude as the cars hit the circuit on January 14th.

Following this, rounds 2 and 3 will return to Diriyah for a thrilling double header under the lights. The circuit is fast flowing with no room for error, punishing mistakes with a trip into the wall.

The grid travels across the world to 3 of the 4 new venues in succession at rounds 4, 5, and 6 before returning to Europe.

Berlin hosts rounds 7 and 8 of the Formula E World Championship. The Gen3 cars will make their debut on the familiar Airport circuit as they battle the abrasive surface and energy management.

Next up comes the historical Monaco E-prix, returning to the streets of the legendary circuit for round 6. Unlike F1, Formula E has proven time and time again that overtaking can be done in the tight streets of Monaco – this race promises thrills from lights to flag.

After its thrilling debut in Season 8, the Jakarta E-prix returns to the calendar with a double header in the streets of the Indonesian Capital for rounds 10 and 11.

The Portland E-prix takes the round 12 slot, bringing the excitement of a new track to the title fight.

Rounds 13 and 14 will take place in the heart of Rome for the fifth time as the grid returns to the Italian capital in Gen3, ready for an exciting double header in the summer sun.

Season 9 champions will be crowned in the finale as the season comes to a close in the UK capital for the London E-prix. The track is the only circuit to include both indoor and outdoor sections as the cars weave through the ExCeL London.
