The FIA has confirmed the six power unit manufacturers that have registered to be suppliers from 2026 to 2030.

The new rule set is centred around increased electrification from the MGU-K and the removal of the very expensive and complex MGU-H along with a fully sustainable fuel.

Audi will be partnering with Sauber and producing their own power unit from its motorsports facility in Neuberg and Ford will be part funding the Red Bull Powertrains project after their announcement yesterday.

The American manufacturer will also be helping the Milton Keynes squad with battery and hybrid technology.

The deal means that Red Bull’s partnership with Honda will come to an end at the end of 2025, however, the Japanese manufacturer previously stated its interest in an entry and is on the registration list giving them the option to return if they wish.

The six manufacturers registered for 2026 are:

  • Alpine Racing
  • Audi
  • Ferrari S.p.A
  • Honda Racing Corporation
  • Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains Ltd.
  • Red Bull Ford

The sports growth in recent years, along with its plans for increased electrification and sustainability has led to the dawn of another OEM boom like in the early 2000’s.

“The confirmation that there will be six power unit manufacturers competing in Formula 1 from 2026 is testament to the strength of the championship and the robust technical regulations that have been diligently created by the FIA in close collaboration with Formula 1 and the power unit manufacturers.

“The power unit is at the forefront of technological innovation, making the future of Formula 1 more sustainable while maintaining the spectacular racing. I am grateful for the confidence of world- leading automotive manufacturers demonstrated by their commitment to Formula 1.”
