2024 F2 Monaco Practice: Victor Martins Dominates the Timesheets

Admin Avatar

Welcome to the 2024 F2 Monaco weekend. Just like F3, the practice session for the 2024 F2 Monaco Grand Prix turned out to be eventful, dashing the drivers’ hopes for a smooth start.

With rain preceding the session, similar to F3, each driver began with Wet Pirelli tires.

Green Light

As the session kicked off, Enzo Fittipaldi found himself in a close call with the barriers at the hairpin, while his Van Amersfoort Racing teammate Rafael Villagomez narrowly avoided a collision. Quite the dramatic start.

Leading the pack for ART Grand Prix, Victor Martins not only surpassed his personal best but also set a new early benchmark of 1:40.531.

Martins continued to push, improving further at 1:40.200.

Meanwhile, Fittipaldi overshot Turn 1, briefly raising yellow flags, before he shortly returned to the track.

However, the session was interrupted as Franco Colapinto made contact with the wall at La Rascasse, bringing a red flag to the session.

Final 20 Minutes

In the final 20 minutes of the session, Martins continued to lead for ART. As the rain fell, commentators speculated whether either of these facts would change in the remainder of the session.

With the rain intensifying, drivers found it difficult to improve their times as they had earlier.

Martins went too deep into Sainte Devote but managed to re-join the grid after getting turned around the right way.

Championship leader Zane Maloney was the next driver to explore the run-off areas, going deep into Turn 5 before he got going again.

Final Ten Minutes

In the final ten minutes, our top three were Martins, Hauger, and Verschoor.

With the rain at its heaviest, every driver except Marti, Bearman, and Miyata returned to the pitlane.

By the time the clock showed 4 minutes remaining, all drivers had returned to the pit lane.

Chequered Flag

Martins ended the session on top, followed by Hauger and Verschoor. Isack Hadjar secured fourth place, with Martins’ ART teammate O’Sullivan in fifth.

Qualifying begins at 15:10 local time, starting with the even-numbered drivers in Group A. The odd-numbered cars will follow in Group B at 15:34, depending on the weather and potential red flags.
