Both Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto’s FW46 cars will feature a bold yellow design on the engine cover. This activation comes from Williams’ partnership with Mercado Libre, an e-commerce giant in Latin America.
The especial livery, a nod to Williams’ Championship-winning heritage, will also be incorporated into the drivers’ race suits. In Brazil, the branding will adapt to the local language.
Yellow first debuted on the Williams FW08C in 1983 and remained a memorable part of the team’s livery until 1993, a prolific period in Williams’ history. During that decade, the British team celebrated 55 race wins, three of its nine Constructors’ World Championships, and three of its seven Drivers’ World Championships, including Brazilian legend Nelson Piquet’s third title in 1987.
A Partnership Driven by Speed
Mercado Libre, a leader in e-commerce and digital payments with over 100 million users in Latin America. They joined Williams as an Official Partner following Argentine driver Franco Colapinto’s promotion to an F1 race seat earlier this year. Originally from Argentina, the multinational company is known for its lightning-fast delivery services, making it a natural fit for the speed-driven world of Formula 1.
James Bower, Williams Racing’s Commercial Director, expressed his excitement about this partnership activation:
“Williams Racing and Mercado Libre are two brands synonymous with speed, trust and innovation, and this eye-catching engine cover is the perfect way to celebrate our partnership.”
“Yellow livery designs hold a special place in Williams’ storied history and it is great to see the colour return to our cars with one of Latin America’s leading technology companies.”
Mercado Libre’s Marketing Vice President, Juan Lavista, also shared his thoughts:
“The partnership with Williams resonates with our shared passion for speed and innovation.”
“By connecting the thrill of racing with our commitment to fast and reliable shipping, we aim to create meaningful connections with millions of fans and users around the globe.”
A Tribute to Reutemann
In celebration of the collaboration, Colapinto starred in a new TV commercial promoting the partnership across Latin America, driving one of Mercado Libre’s signature yellow delivery vans.
The Argentine driver also unveiled a special helmet design for the Latin American races. The helmet is inspired by Carlos Alberto “Lole” Reutemann’s yellow and blue colours during his time with Williams in the 1980s.
Williams’ yellow and blue livery colours also happen to be those of Colapinto’s favourite football team, Club Atlético Boca Juniors.
Colapinto enthusiastically commented on the design:
“This helmet is a tribute to Lole Reutemann. It’s my way of representing him.”
“I hadn’t seen the new design, and it’s pure Boca! The car itself feels like it’s from Boca!”
Colapinto has shown promising results this season. With only four races under his belt, he already has five points in the drivers’ standings. The 21-year-old rookie matches or surpasses more experienced drivers like Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas, and Zhou Guanyu.
While his future in Formula 1 remains uncertain, the young driver’s potential continues to shine.
