W Series announcse Sky Sports F1 will broadcast live coverage of all qualifying and races in a three-year deal starting in 2022.
With coverage across all of Sky’s global platforms – Sky Italia and Sky Deutschland included – the three-year contract represents a landmark partnership and the largest media investment in W Series to date.
In previous years, W Series had been free to watch on Channel 4 with live broadcasts on TV and their YouTube channel. Although Channel 4 will no longer be the main broadcaster of the series, they will show live and free-to-air coverage of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. As well as this, much like their coverage of Formula 1, they will also show highlights of the other 9 races in 2022.
The move to cover W Series highlights Sky’s commitment to diversity and the promotion of women in motorsport. On this, Catherine Bond Muir (Chief Executive Officer of W Series) says she has been “impressed by their commitment to women’s sport and plans to amplify coverage of W Series.”
The managing direct of Sky Sports, Jonathan Licht, considers Sky the perfect home for W Series:
“At Sky Sports we are committed to making sport more inclusive and I can now proudly say that, with the addition of W Series, every genre channel at Sky Sports now has both men’s and women’s sports coverage.”
Muir is proud of this step given the increased reach it will offer the series:
“I’m delighted to announce our landmark broadcast partnership with Sky Sports, which is another significant step in W Series’ continued rapid expansion.”
“W Series is an increasingly international series … our broadcast partnership with Sky Sports reflects this, giving us great breadth of coverage across Sky’s global platforms and we’re excited to showcase incredibly exciting racing through fantastic content, direct to our fans.”
W Series’s 2022 season kicks off in Miami on the 6-8th of April alongside F1. We look forward to keeping you up to data throughout the season both here and on our social channels – @JoinEF1.
