The DS automobile drivers took an impressive 3-4 finish in Monaco. Complete with a first podium since 2022 for Stoffel Vandoorne and vital points haul for the team.
The famous Monaco track saw the ‘Grand Gala’ liveried cars of DS Penske have a strong weekend from the start.
Qualifying signified the fifth time in eight races that a DS car had been on the front row, the most of any constructor. With Vandoorne lining up second and Jean-Éric Vergne starting fifth.
Both drivers are past Formula E champions, Vergne in 2018 and 2019, Vandoorne in 2022. Their experience and skill shone in Monaco.
At the race start, Vandoorne clinched the lead from the Porsche of Pascal Wehrlein just before the safety car emerged in the beginning laps.
Though he lost the place after the restart he remained actively in the fight for first place, while Vergne found himself just behind in third.
The two champions played the team game perfectly with a second safety car. They were rewarded with a third and fourth place finish.
Just unable to get ahead of the two Jaguars.
With half the season now completed, Jean-Éric Vergne and Stoffel Vandoorne are seventh and ninth in the drivers championship.
Monaco proved a much more successful weekend for Penske Corporation following the recent disqualification of their IndyCar drivers at St. Petersburg.
They now sit fifth in the Formula E team rankings, closing in on the manufacturers’ podium.
Eugenio Franzetti, the DS performance director spoke enthusiastically about the results saying, “our hard work is paying off, and all the efforts put in by the team have brought us some good results.”
“As for our drivers, they were excellent as always.”
Jean-Éric Vergne echoed these sentiments, “we’ve clearly got a great dynamic going, which shows how we’ve been working well recently.”
Although Vandoorne agreed saying “we had a good day, without making any real mistakes.” He was frustrated as he felt “we could have won today.”
However, it was Stoffel Vandoorne’s first podium since winning the 2022 championship. He mused, “it’s been a long time coming and I’m really pleased.”
