While most of the attention may be on the driver’s championship, another contest is occurring in the midfield. Just 12 points separates Racing Bulls in sixth and Kick Sauber in ninth, with Aston Martin and Hass also in the mix. With four races remaining in the 2025 Season, the fight for sixth in the Constructors Championship is wide open.
With new regulations in place for the 2026 season, the midfield fight is more important than ever. The difference between sixth and ninth place would be crucial for 2026 developments, with the constructors in sixth expected to receive an additional $35 Million USD.
Notable Performances
There have been several performances over the past 20 races that have shaped the Constructors Championship to be where it is today.
Nico Hulkenburg‘s maiden podium at the 2025 British Grand Prix was a performance every fan enjoyed. After 239 starts in Formula 1, the German driver took third place at Silverstone. Hulkenburg not only survived the challenging conditions, but managed to secure 15 championship points for Kick Sauber.
From one of the oldest drivers on the grid to one of the youngest, Isack Hadjar has been sensational for Racing Bulls in 2025. The Frenchman is currently sitting tenth in the drivers standings and claimed his first podium at the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix. With Hamilton, Leclerc and Norris all suffering DNF’s, Hadjar became the second rookie to podium in the 2025 season.
Fellow rookie Oliver Bearman delivered a stunning performance at the 2025 Mexican Grand Prix, only missing the podium by 1 place. The Hass driver, who has been consistent all season, delivered his highest placing yet. The fourth gave Hass an additional 12 championship points allowing them to jump Sauber for eight.
Gabriel Bortoleto has also had an impressive 2025 season so far. The Brazilian, who is looking forward to his first home race next weekend, had an impressive Mexican Grand Prix, recovering from 16th into the points. The 2024 F2 Champion also managed to secure a crucial sixth place at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Woes for Aston Martin
After having a strong European stint, Aston Martin have only managed to score seven points in the last five races. The Silverstone based team, who are currently sitting in seventh, must deliver in the final few races in order to hold off Hass and Sauber.
Fernando Alonso had his best finish at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, finishing in fifth. While his teammate, Lance Stroll had his highest finish of sixth back in Australia, at the 2025 season opener.
Prize Money or Wind Tunnel?
As we head into the last few races of the season, the fight will be on to gain as many points as possible. Alongside prize money, higher constructors standing can also help teams gain valuable sponsors, drivers or engineers.
However, with a higher constructors standing comes less wind tunnel testing time. Wind tunnel testing is used by engineers to understand the aerodynamics of their car, and is crucial in developing their car for the following season.
Alpine, who currently sit in tenth, will receive the most wind tunnel testing time, alongside Cadillac, with 460 hours each. Similar to the prize money, there is a significant gap in wind tunnel test hours between sixth and ninth place. If Racing Bulls were to hold onto sixth place, they would have sixty hours less than Sauber in ninth.
It begs the question, will any of the four teams in the midfield battle sacrifice prize money in return for greater 2026 developments.
