Spanish Grand Prix: Ferrari Upgrades Fail to Bring Results

Both Ferrari drivers agreed that the Scuderia still has some work to do after a challenging Spanish Grand Prix.

The car is not performing well even with the new upgrades. Home hero Carlos Sainz Jr came 5th while his teammate Leclerc didn’t even break into the points after qualifying troubles.

They were in a different league to Max Verstappen who romped to a comfortable victory.

It was a disappointing weekend for the Italian team after making some improvements that were speculated to help both cars perform better.

Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc were disgruntled reflecting on the challenges they have been dealing with throughout the entire season.

After the race Carlos Sainz admitted: “We probably brought them to our weakest track of the season because of the characteristics.”

They will hope for some improvement at the Candadian Grand Prix in two weeks.

Sainz expressed genuine concern for his team-mate too, affected by the arduous task Leclerc faced in his race while trying to get some valuable points. He started from the pit lane after making major changes to his SF-23 ahead of the race. Leclerc had earlier failed to advance out of Q1.

Carlos was shocked.

“Last year we would have made it back to the top four, top five starting from pitlane” he added.

Charles also found it difficult to comprehend.

“We have so much work to do, it’s very strange and very difficult to understand.

“We go on the first set of hard and it feels so bad, no grip at all, and then you go with the second set of hard and everything feels fine” he said.

What is Ferrari doing wrong?

After 7 races this season, it’s clear that Ferrari is facing some issues that need to be addressed.

Car issues, such as excessive tire wear, the car’s bouncing behavior, and several others are causing problems. However, it’s equally important for the team to have a better understanding of what is actually happening and how to overcome these challenges.

It’s not a secret that Ferrari’s strategies have not been the best in recent years. Wrong calls during each race for both drivers is a serious problem that Team Principal, Fred Vasseur needs to take care of if they want to see an improvement.

Is 4th the limit in the Constructors?

Facing 4th position after pushing Red Bull last year must be a hard pill to swallow for the Scuderia. Even more so because this season they’re not only battling with the Bulls, but with Aston Martin as well.

Fernando Alonso has almost single-handedly catapulted them to podium contenders this season.

What is worrying for Ferrari is the comeback at Mercedes. Sainz said it was the “biggest surprise” of the weekend.

“It’s just suddenly Mercedes has slotted in between us,” he added.

Hamilton once again looks settled after rumours he may push for a move to Maranello.

With the Canadian Grand Prix in the upcoming weeks, the Tifosi are eager to see if the upgrades will showcase their potential.

in another track and if they will prove to be the right call from Ferrari to regain the top position for the remainder of the calendar.
