With Formula 1 and Liberty Media securing expansion in key areas including US, with the addition of the Miami and Las Vegas GP’s. Attention is turning to Africa, specifically the South African GP at Kyalami.

The Kyalami circuit will need major investment to upgrade it to Grade 1 standard, including the addition of tech-pro barriers and larger run-offs, however their seems to be a desire from F1 to return to the region.

“There is a lot of interest there. For sure that’s another area that so far is missing in the geography of our calendar.”

Stefano Domenicali, F1 CEO.

The kyalami track has seen some changes in configuration since 1993, including extension of the pit straight, however it still has many elements of the original track.

Alain Prost wins the final race in South Africa in 1993.
