The FIA has confirmed that Redbull breached the 2021 Cost Cap Regulations, however penalties have yet to be decided.
The delayed announcement confirmed that 7 of the 10 teams complied with the 2021 Cost Cap Regulations, with Aston Martin guilty of a procedural breach and Redbull guilty of an overspend. Williams did not receive certification due to an earlier procedural breach.
Redbull’s breach is said to be a minor breach, which is classed as less than 5% of the overall budget. They have also been found guilty of a further procedural breach.
The FIA would also note that with respect to this first year of the application of the Financial Regulations the intervention of the FIA Cost Cap Administration has been limited to reviewing the submissions made by the Competitors and that no full formal investigations were launched.
The FIA Cost Cap Administration is currently determining the appropriate course of action to be taken under the Financial Regulations with respect to Aston Martin and Red Bull and further information will be communicated in compliance with the Regulations.
FIA, confirming that no decision has been reached regarding breaches of Cost Cap
The FIA has not released details of the exact breaches and have confirmed that they are still in the process of determining the sanctions for the breaches.
Punishments for a minor breach can include exclusion from event session, excluding the race, financial penalties, reduced testing and also reductions in future cost cap budgets.
The regulations do allow for deductions of Championship points, however this not expected to be utilised in this instance.
