Race 2 F1 Academy | 2024 Singapore GP | Double Win For Abbi Pulling

Abbi Pulling does it again, securing her second victory of the weekend in Race 2 of the F1 Academy 2024 Singapore GP. Maya Weug took second place after a close battle with Doriane Pin who rounded off the podium in P3.

With air temperatures reaching 33 degrees and the circuit heating up to 56 degrees—20 degrees hotter than yesterday’s race—tyre degradation played a significant role in this race.

Despite a brief safety car period and a minor collision, the race ran smoothly without major incidents.

At Lights Out

It was a clean start as Abbi Pulling held onto her P1, while Ferrari Academy driver Maya Weug jumped into P2, engaging in a thrilling wheel-to-wheel battle with Doriane Pin. Weug made a brilliant start, instantly putting pressure on the french driver.

At the front, Pulling wasted no time in building a gap, maintaining control while the pack behind her scrapped for positions.

Sauber driver Carrie Schreiner briefly went off track but recovered swiftly, managing to rejoin the race without losing positions.

Aurelia Nobels made contact with the wall but stayed in the race. Over the radio, she defiantly told her engineer to “leave her alone,” determined to push on.

Meanwhile, Wild Card entry Ella Lloyd had a great start, moving up from P8 to P7, demonstrating strong pace early on.

Abbi Pulling set the fastest lap with a 2:07.133, pulling 1.2 seconds ahead of Maya Weug, who continued to hold P2.

Bustamante Brings a Safety Car

Local driver Bianca Bustamante had another tough race, spinning out at Turn 7 on Lap 3, which triggered a brief safety car. After recovering, she rejoined the race at the back of the field, continuing her challenging run at the Singapore GP.

The green flag waved just one lap later, and Abbi Pulling wasted no time, accelerating early to regain the lead and rebuild the gap she had before the incident.

Meanwhile, Lia Block found herself under heavy pressure from Nerea Martí, who was fighting hard for P4. Block defended brilliantly, managing to hold her position.

At the back of the field, a tight battle for P12 unfolded between Lola Lovinfosse and Amna Al Qubaisi, adding some excitement to the mid-pack action.

10-Seconds Penalty for Tina Hausmann

An incident between Bianca Bustamante and Tina Hausmann on track led to an investigation, with Hausmann being found at fault and handed a 10-second penalty.

Meanwhile, Campos Racing teammates Chloe Chambers and Carrie Schreiner engaged in a fierce battle for P8, with the American driver Chambers showing better pace and closing the gap.

At the front, Abbi Pulling set a new fastest lap, shaving two seconds off her previous time and extending her lead to 1.5 seconds over Maya Weug, who remained in P2.

Things went from bad to worse for Tina Hausmann, as she spun on Lap 8, triggering a brief yellow flag. It was a tough race for the Swiss driver.

Bustamante, despite her earlier struggles, managed to gain a position, moving up to P14.

Teammates Fight in the Midfield

Getting close to the end of the race, Chloe Chambers made a bold move on her teammate Carrie Schreiner, going incredibly deep into the corner and nearly colliding. Chambers managed to secure P8, but Schreiner fought back while also defending from a three-car train behind her. It was an intense midfield battle, keeping the fans on edge.

With one lap to go, Abbi Pulling held the fastest lap at 2:05.129, extending her gap to 3.2 seconds over Maya Weug in P2. Doriane Pin settled for P3, unable to recover her second position after losing it early on.

Behind them, Lia Block and Nerea Martí continued their fight, while Wild Card driver Ella Lloyd successfully defended P7 after climbing up one place earlier in the race.

Abbi Pulling proved unstoppable, securing a dominant double victory this weekend, bringing her tally to seven wins in the championship.

Maya Weug claimed her sixth podium of the season, solidifying her P3 in the driver standings and closing the gap to Doriane Pin.

With only two rounds remaining in December, the championship battle is heating up, but Abbi Pulling seems to be heading towards her first F1 Academy Championship. The final stretch promises to deliver even more excitement as the season heads towards a thrilling conclusion.
