The FIA have today announced the departure of Peter Bayer from his positions as Secretary General for Sport and F1 Executive Director, positions he has held since 2017 and 2021 respectively.
In a statement, the FIA “warmly thanks him for the achievements he has contributed to the development of motor sport over the last five years”.
Bayer was responsible for investigating the events of 2021’s Abu Dhabi finale, perhaps one of the sport’s most controversial moments.
He will be temporarily replaced by Shaila-Ann Rao. Shaila-Ann previously worked for the FIA as a Legal Director and re-joins the team having spent her recent years as the General Counsel of Mercedes F1 and Special Advisor to Toto Wolff.
The reasons for Bayer’s departure remain unknown at this time.
