Alpine F1 Team has announced that Paul Aron is set for Formula 1 next season. The Estonian will be the team’s Reserve Driver for the 2025 season to replace Jack Doohan, who moves into their second F1 seat. Only a year after his farewell to the Mercedes Junior Academy where he spent four years with the team, Aron will once again be a part of an F1 team programme.

Aron, in his rookie season of Formula 2, has delivered an impressive 2024 campaign. The Estonian started off the season by leading the Championship, and having a nine-race podium streak. Aron has surpassed all expectations of him, and therefore, earned a position in the sport.
The 20-year-old was previously signed to the Mercedes Junior Academy – a team that he was a part of for over four years, and the vast majority of his feeder series career. This ultimately left fans wondering if Aron would get a seat in Formula 1 – or even an opportunity, as without a driver academy, it is often unlikely.
However, with ex-Hitech team Boss Oliver Oakes coming into the Alpine team, he set his sights on the young driver.
Quotes from Alpine and Paul Aron
Paul Aron emphasises his gratefulness for the opportunity with the Alpine team;
“Joining BWT Alpine Formula One Team is incredibly special. This team is a fantastic environment for young drivers. I’m thrilled that Flavio and Oliver (Oakes) have entrusted me with this role. I’m excited to begin this new chapter and continue building my career in motorsport.”

Flavio Briatore, Alpine’s Executive Advisor, stated his excitement with the young driver joining the team;
“We’re delighted to welcome Paul … as our Reserve Driver for 2025. Formula 1 is undergoing a generational shift, with many young drivers making their mark. We believe Paul is one of the most promising talents, and we’re excited to work with him as he progresses toward becoming an F1 driver.”
Paul Aron is competing this weekend in Formula 2. He will start the Feature Race on Sunday from Pole position.
