Oscar Piastri will join McLaren for the Young Driver test after the Abu Dhabi GP after an agreement reached to release the young Australian from Alpine early

Motorsport.com has reported that Alpine and McLaren have came to an agreement to allow Piastri to move to McLaren before the end of the calendar year.

With the acrimonious way that Oscar Piastri left Alpine it was thought that the French team would be reluctant to allow Oscar to leave early, however it would seem that discussions had been taking place for some time.

McLaren confirmed that Piastri had receny completed a private test in last year’s McLaren MCL35M at Paul Ricard, the team would not release any details other to confirm that the test did take place.

With an agreement in place Oscar Piastri will be able to sample McLaren’s 2022 car earlier than previously thought.

There was a negotiation on an agreement as to how to part ways, We’re drawing a line under it. Once this season ends, he’s free to go and do whatever he wants to do.”
