Oscar Piastri has signed a multi-year deal with the McLaren F1 Team. The Australian driver solidified his commitment to the Papaya suit, extending his contract past its original 2026 expiration.

The 23-year-old driver signed with McLaren in 2023, after a legal battle with Alpine, a rival team of McLaren.
Alpine had released a press statement claiming that Piastri had signed with them, following his three years as a member of their driver academy.
Piastri disputed this, confirming on X (formerly Twitter) that he would not be racing with Alpine.
Piastri bleeds Papaya
During his rookie F1 season, Piastri extended his contract with McLaren until the end of 2026. However, this past Tuesday, it was announced that he has signed a “multi-year” deal with the team, and will be racing with them beyond 2026.
Piastri’s teammate, Lando Norris, has also extended his contract with McLaren beyond 2026.
“Myself and Lando are both there for a long time now, Andrea [Stella] is on a long-term contract, Zak [Brown], key technical staff as well, so it seemed like a no-brainer and it was reciprocated from the team.”

A Recipe for Success
In 2023, Piastri secured his first F1 win of any kind, when he won the Qatar Sprint.
His first race win came during the 2024 season, when he finished on top of the podium at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
He earned his second race win a few months later, after a close battle with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc through the tight streets of Azerbaijan.
Piastri was a crucial in helping McLaren win the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.
Alongside Norris, the two drivers fought against Red Bull and Ferrari, and ultimately took home the trophy in Abu Dhabi.
It was McLaren’s first Constructors’ title since 1998.
“He was absolutely fundamental in adding to our legacy with the 2024 Constructors’ Championship last season, so we’re all excited to see what we can do in the years to come as we continue to fight for world championships together,” said Zak Brown, McLaren Racing CEO.
As the 2025 Formula 1 season begins, McLaren are the favorite to win the Constructors’ Championship. Both drivers have also expressed their personal goals of winning the Drivers’ Championship.
Team Principal Andrea Stella trusts that Piastri and Norris will bring great success for McLaren in years to come.
“Alongside Lando, we have what we need locked in for the long term to keep pushing forward,” said Stella. “I look forward to continuing to watch Oscar grow and develop as a driver and know that many successes lie ahead for him.”
The 2025 Formula 1 season kicks off this weekend with Piastri’s home race, the Australian Grand Prix.
