The Formula 1 paddock has been rocked by another racist incident, this time involving Nelson Piquet Sr.
In a video filmed in November, Piquet used a racial slur in his native language to describe Lewis Hamilton after he was asked for his opinion on the Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton contact at the British GP in 2021.
The rough translation, as provided by Brazilian media, is: “he [racist term] put the car in and left because there was no way to get past two cars at that corner. He did dirty.”
The video has prompted both Formula 1 and Mercedes to release statements regarding the video.
It remains unclear what further actions Formula 1 can or will take against Nelson Piquet, it would be reasonable to assume that he will not be welcome in and around the Formula 1 paddock anytime soon.
