MotoGP’s return to Brazil delivered a spectacular opening act, as Marc Márquez claimed victory in a hard-fought Sprint Race, holding off a late charge from Fabio Di Giannantonio while Jorge Martín completed the podium after an intense contest at the front.

With the new circuit back on the calendar and Sprint stakes as high as ever, the race delivered constant action from lights out to chequered flag.

Fast Start Sets the Tone

The opening laps were immediately chaotic, with multiple riders fighting for position as the field funnelled through the opening corners. Grip levels and track familiarity played a key role, and several riders were forced to adapt quickly to the evolving conditions.

Márquez wasted little time asserting himself near the front, positioning his bike aggressively in the early exchanges. While he didn’t escape immediately, his intent was clear – control the race from the front and avoid being dragged into the pack battles behind.

Behind him, Di Giannantonio settled into a strong rhythm, emerging as the most consistent challenger, while Martín focused on maintaining track position in a tightly packed lead group.

Márquez Controls as Di Giannantonio Closes In

As the Sprint settled into its rhythm, the battle at the front began to take shape.

Márquez held the advantage, but Di Giannantonio steadily reduced the gap, showing impressive pace and confidence under braking. The Italian rider looked increasingly threatening in the closing laps, positioning himself for a potential late move.

Despite the pressure, Márquez remained composed. His lap-by-lap consistency and defensive awareness ensured he never left a clear opening, even as the gap fluctuated within striking distance.

Martín, meanwhile, remained within touch but was unable to match the outright pace of the leading duo, instead focusing on securing a crucial podium finish.

Midfield Battles Add to the Drama

Further back, the Sprint format once again delivered relentless action.

Riders fought aggressively for the remaining points-paying positions, with overtakes throughout the field and several small mistakes as competitors pushed the limits. The circuit’s characteristics, combined with limited track time, made consistency difficult, and even minor errors proved costly.

Track limits warnings and brief excursions off-line highlighted just how demanding the layout was, particularly in a race where every lap carries heightened importance.

Márquez Holds Firm to Take Victory

In the end, the decisive moment never came for Di Giannantonio.

Despite closing in during the final laps, he was unable to get close enough to launch a serious overtaking attempt. Márquez, drawing on experience and race craft, managed the gap perfectly to secure victory in Brazil’s first Sprint Race since MotoGP’s return.

Di Giannantonio’s second place marked a standout performance, while Martín completed the podium with a measured ride.
