OK so I know what you’re thinking…. “No way, Red Bull and Ferrari are just way too strong” but hear me out.
The Mercedes team have been having their worst season in Formula 1 since 2013; pre hybrid era. However, the team has been scoring consistently throughout the season; being the only team to not face the engine reliability issues that have plagued the others. In fact the only DNF for the whole season for the Mercedes duo was when George Russell was involved in the first corner incident with Zhou Guanyu at Silverstone.
Now take the increase in performance that we have been witnessing over the last two/three races and couple it with the fact that Mercedes will be bringing yet MORE improvements to their cars, we could see a real advancement forward for the silver arrows.
Lewis Hamilton also historically does very well at the Hungaroring. Having won there a record 8 times!
With the improvements to the Mercedes car still incoming, its only a matter of time before they finally place one of their drivers on the top step of the podium. After their best result of the season in France, scoring a 2nd/3rd double podium (albeit with some luck ofcourse) the Silver arrows will still have one more step to aim for.
Can they win the championship. Its highly unlikely. In fact some would say impossible. But if anyone else on the grid is going to score their maiden 2022 win this year, the safe money would be on Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton.
Sir Lewis Hamilton has managed to win atleast one race in every season that he has ever competed in F1. In 2013 he won his only race that year at(you guessed it) the Hungarian Grand Prix. Even in that dog of a Mclaren in 2009, he won 2 races comprising of Hungary and Singapore. So you see its a circuit that he always does well at.
An interesting stat that was bought up over the weekend of the French GP was the fact that no F1 driver has ever won a race after they have competed in their 300th in the sport. Something is telling me that Lewis will be the first to break that duck.
What do you think? Can Mercedes get back to winning ways this weekend in Hungary? Or are they destined to pick up the dregs of the podiums when reliability issues or unforced errors rear their ugly heads for the Red Bull and Ferrari teams?
