Max Verstappen’s 20-second time penalty during the Mexican Grand Prix has started intense discussions within the Formula 1 paddock. The Dutch-Man found himself in 2 incidents with his championship rival during lap 10.

During a post-race interview with SkySports, Zak Brown gave his thoughts on the matter. Believing the penalty was, “Probably not enough. It’s getting a bit ridiculous, and I applaud the stewards.” He added, “Lando drove a clean race, and congratulations to Carlos [Sainz] for his win.” Brown’s comments underscore a growing frustration at the McLaren team.

Verstappen’s Penalty: Why are Mclaren so mad?

The 20-second time penalty handed to Verstappen was the culmination of two incidents during the intense battle with Norris. In each case, Verstappen was found to be outside the regulations. But Brown believes that this is a common occurrence and should be dealt with more severely.

Since the infamous Austrian Grand Prix incident, Verstappen and Norris have been the subject of many intense battles. Given the championship stakes, the McLaren team are feeling as though they have been in one too many close calls with Verstappen. Urging the FIA and Stewards to have a stronger reaction to prevent further incidents.

Norris’ Reaction

Mclaren’s team CEO wasn’t the only one to comment on Verstappen’s penalty. Lando Norris spoke to the media after the Podium celebrations.

“I respect max a lot in what he does, how he races all of these things… but today was too much.” Norris was evidently frustrated with the movements of Verstappen calling him “dangerous” on the radio.

With the races ticking down for Lando Norris to claim his first World Drivers Championship or Max Verstappen claiming his fourth, it will be interesting to see how these two get on for the remainder of the season.
