The Start

All the cars were lined up and ready for the start of the Italian GP, unfortunately for the watching Tifosi and Formula 1 fans around the world, it was a bit of am anti climax.

Yuki Tsunoda’s Alpha Tauri ground to a halt on the way to the grid with a Power Unit issue. This led to an aborted start then a Red Flag, delaying the start by several minutes.

Re-Start

When the race finally restarted, Carlos Sainz kept the lead heading into the first corner, with Verstappen and Leclerc following behind, surprisingly there was no drama down the field, with all drivers keeping things tidy.

The race quicky turned into a strategy battle, with all eyes on how will Verstappen take the lead and could Sainz and Ferrari keep the lead, unfortunately for the Tifosi Carlos would not hang on for too long as Verstappen would take the lead on the 14th Lap, disappearing into the distance on his way to breaking the record as the first driver to win 10 races in a row in Formula 1.

Ferrari Battle for Third

Ferrari will be happy with how the race turned out, they knew that they didn’t have the pace to beat Redbull, however they didn’t make it easy for them. Sainz held on for as long as he could, but the Redbull cars would beventually take the top two spots, attention then turned to the final podium place. Charles had it for a time then it was the turn of Carlos to take it, he would hold on and take his place on the third step of the podium. It was some really tough racing between both the Ferrari drivers, at times it looked as though they were going to trip up and feel the wrath of the Tifosi.

Luckily for them they kept it on the track and crossed the line third and fourth.

Rest of the Field

The action was not just contained at the front with racing between several drivers including Hamilton, Russell, Piastri and Norris to name a few.

George Russell would suffer a penalty while battling with the Alpine of Ocon, however the 5 seconds added to his race time didn’t do much to effect the race result.

George Russell’s teammate Lewis Hamilton had an eventful race, at one point he would be leading, however this was due to the Mercedes driver being out of sequence due to starting the race on the Hard compound of tyre. Hamilton would also get handed a 5 second penalty for causing a collision, after late contact with Oscar Piastri’s McLaren, unfortunately for the McLaren rookie he would drop down the field after damage to his front wing.

Alex Albon would continue to have an impressive season, brining home the Williams in seventh and holding off the McLaren of Norris for large parts of the race.

Finally ….

The 2023 Italian GP was a great race, with battles, great passes and a new record holder, this is what Formula 1 should be …

See you all in two weeks for the Singapore GP
